She's right but there may be more to it than that. The randomized scratch pattern will bounce light in more directions. Which we perceive as sparkle. Why we like sparkle is interesting too. Sparkle imitates what clean water looks like in bright sunshine. So it triggers instincts in us.

Damar Fadlan why isn't what? Realize I'm not going to read prior comments when the thread gets too long. Because YouTube's comment threading sucks that badly. They kinda do that on purpose. I'll leave it to you to figure out why they might do that.

There's definitely a place for 3" cut off discs and there's even a place for the little Dremel cut off discs. There's also a place for the 14" demo saws too. It is left up to the individual to figure out where all of those places are.

I buy a lot of tools used. But there it's catch as catch can. Still the deals I get can't be beat. Not even by Harbor Freight. I used one of my weirder tools I have in a project yesterday. I broke out my Milwaukee heavy duty angle drill to drill a hole in an awkward location. It's a professional quality tool. That thing just had the feel of durability to it in the hands. I got it for $15 in a case with bits.

@tysteven6279 well sometimes you can get good deals in pawn shops. Your best bet is garage sales. That's where the best deals are to be found. But it's also where the most junk is too. The gems are hidden in a lot of crap. One man's trash is another's treasure. Grabbing that treasure can take a bit of doing. So persistence pays off. Seek and ye shall find. Then there's flea markets. Which are a step up. So prices go up but so does the concentration of value. Then you get to pawn shops and second hand stores. Consignment shops.

In 1993 Dremel was bought by the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. So that may be the long time you were referring to? Because when Bosch bought Dremel they revamped the tool lineup. They came out with the cordless stuff in 2003.

@WhiteG60 Dremels are made better today than they used to be. That's because a large tool manufacturer is making them now. Namely Bosch. Which is a respected name in the manufacturing industry. The original Dremel company was a bit fly by night. I have a very old oscillating sander they made that's really how ya doing. I keep it in my tool collection as a conversation piece. Forget about actually trying to use it. I have fired it up though. Thing's a total joke.

@christopherhusta9915 but that's not what happens in regular light. Regular mirrors don't exactly sparkle either. That does raise the question why don't mirrors sparkle? It also raises the issue that people don't define things very well too. EDIT: I should add that disco balls do sparkle. And they're made out of mirror segments. Hopefully that's food for thought.

@christopherhusta9915 scuff is a relative term. Every solid surface has scratches on it. Some are just really small scratches. Polishing compound is an abrasive. It is just a very fine abrasive.

Old Dremels had plastic coupling sleeves in them that were known to fail.

@rhr-p7w yeah what they did here is a valid review. What we all end up using are subjective opinions about things. I'm not testing products a la Project Farm. I use things and form conclusions based on experience.

I've had pretty poor luck with a lot of HF electric power tools. To the point where I avoid them now. A couple have been OK. But a lot were total junk.

I killed a Dremel once heat cycling it. I was starting and stopping while using one of those rotary saws in plastic and that made the ceramic magnet in the Dremel crack. When that magnet cracked the tool went flying out of my hand when it locked up. She was done then. Spreading the wear with tools is an effective strategy. I do that with angle grinders.

The coupler in your Dremel may be failing. It's a common failure point in older models. You can get a replacement part. The coupler is this plastic tube with splines in it. It connects the output shaft to the motor inside the tool. It's kind of like a shear pin in a way. It's supposed to break to save the tool if you try to do something you shouldn't do.

@ickess yeah Dremels are pretty easy to crack open. Once you open it up if yours has a coupler you'll see it in there. Looks kind of like a piece of hose. Or it should. If yours is shredding it may look like something else.

I would think that since Bosch bought the Dremel brand the tools would be better than when Dremel was a private company. I have a Foredom flex shaft tool and I don't know if it has more power than a Dremel does. It's a lot different to use though.

I have a number of rotary tools and different ones are capable of different things. Dremel style rotary tools are not my first choice for more demanding tasks. There you should look into a pneumatic die grinder or maybe a Roto Zip type of a tool. Although Roto Zips can frankly be a bit terrifying with some bits attached to them. Roto Zip brand is made by Bosch which owns Dremel now.

The Dremel brand name was bought by Bosch a number of years ago so you cannot compare the black plastic era tools with what's being made today. They're made by a completely different company now.

I've burned out and blew up a number of genuine Dremel tools. It's just the nature of the tools. You push those little things a bit too hard and they die. But I've only killed the older ones made before Bosch took the brand over. The new Bosch made ones are likely better.

I've blown up a few Dremels. They're not too rugged. They're no 7/9" angle grinder, that's for sure.

I have a couple B&D RTX rotary tools and they're pretty capable as far as doing the Dremel thing goes. I got one off a clearance table in a big box store for $10 and another on clearance in Walmart for $15. I have other rotary tools for more demanding tasks so my little rotary tools live easy lives. There's definitely places where they're just the thing to use.

This is a subjective quality evaluation. $120 is difficult to justify for a lot of people and how they're going to use the tool. If you got the money burning a hole in your pocket then go for it I guess. The model Dremel they tested does address earlier issues with the tool. It is more powerful. So it better satisfies a large segment of the Dremel customer base.

@MSZSNeoBahamut19 durability can be difficult to test. One major drawback of this kind of tool is they can be delicate. So how long they last is mostly down to operator discretion. Using the tools for the appropriate jobs correctly.

@SicSemperBeats light is fantastic. With the LED tech now portable light has gotten pretty good. I have a cheap COB headlamp and a better beam focused one. They're both pretty decent.
