Early in the war the Panzer IV was the heaviest tank Germany had. So heavy is a relative term. The heaviest tank is the heavy tank. When heavier tanks were made then it became a medium tank.

What race for Berlin? Why would the western Allies press towards Berlin? Have you ever seen where Berlin is on a map? It is deep in the Soviet occupation zone. So why would western Allies die to gain ground for the Soviets? US forces swung south into Bavaria. We had absolutely no intention of going to Berlin. The Soviets prepared defenses around Kursk after receiving intelligence from British about German plans. The battle was delayed because Germany could not finish tank designs fast enough. Notably the Panther.

The USSR was more of a post war thing when Stalin did not retreat from all land Russian troops took.

@pushock better dead than red.
1
@jeff pentagon USSR is an axis of evil and that's all anyone needs to know.
1
@raygiovanno8657 I have been what? They're reds. Red commie bastards. Or Ivans, if you like. BTW I have always known what USSR stands for. I am not your dude either.

@raygiovanno8657 I am well aware of the Space Race and why it happened. It had nothing to do with exploration either. It was about global domination. Both parties pursued space purely for propaganda value. It was a pissing contest. They launched a satellite and cosmonauts to demonstrate their technical prowess and we landed men on the Moon to show we were better than they were. All of that was done to steer public perception and nothing more.
1
@raygiovanno8657 what did they contribute? Besides oppression, strife and famine. That I know about.
1
@raygiovanno8657 there's no doubt the Russians sacrificed the most. I will give them that. Every other person that died in WW2 was a Russian. So if a German died then so did a Russian. If a Japanese person died there goes another Russian. American, Russian. Anyone that died a Russian had to die with them. Which is pretty nuts.
1
@raygiovanno8657 how stunned was Russia when Americans walked on the Moon 12 years after Sputnik launched? How stunned were the Russians when America flew the B-52 five years before Sputnik launched? Stunned enough to launch Sputnik. That's how stunned. How stunned was the USSR when they collapsed? USA! USA! USA! Remember that? Let's relive the moment https://youtu.be/qYscemhnf88?t=58 Listen to the crowd.
1
@raygiovanno8657 you know it Ivan. Privilege people alright. I didn't get to land on the Moon. I did get to ride around on the training lunar rover though. So that was cool.
1
@raygiovanno8657 they collapsed back in 1992 didn't they? I remember when the tanks rolled on the Kremlin. We didn't know what was going to happen. When things fall apart they go down the tubes fast. I think the US should establish better relations with Russia but there's factions in the US against it. They keep saying our president is being controlled by Russia. I think they say that because they have nothing better to say. It is all political. The people that say that crap hate America too. I think they're in with the Chinese.

Stalin got on his knees and begged the western Allies to open up another front.
1
@RoyTrenneman that is not what happened at all. The British told Stalin the German plans with their code breaking and Kursk was planned for months. You do not dig 5 miles deep defensive positions in a matter of weeks. Army group north still managed to smash through it all. Group south could not close the pincer though.
1
@michaelofminsk8951 yeah really. Look on a map someday and see the end lines for all of the armies. Western Allies got much further into Germany than the Russians did. Heck we had to pull back. Do not heap praise on the USSR just because they lost the most. That is nothing to be proud of. Every other person that died in WW2 was a Russian.
1
@michaelofminsk8951 I know history and I am no kid.

They did. But the Germans showed the world how to tank right.
1
@ryn884 the name tank came from the British code word they used to hide the existence of the machines. They pretended they were water tanks. Those Brits were always sly ones.

Naval guns have a range of 35,000 meters. They fire over the horizon. Which does make it challenging to hit targets. Being as you cannot see what you are shooting at.

This video is narrated in English. So German pronunciation does not matter.

The French lost tank battles because they threw tanks into battle piecemeal. French armor tactics sucked. Their strategies still would have sucked even if they had videophones.
1
@samhall3569 them frogs got snookered. The Limeys helping them fared no better though.
1
@samhall3569 they helped us out and we repaid that debt to them now twice. We certainly did show up and save the day in both world wars. Back to back champs!
