Never is a long time. Keep at it and you'll get somewhere eventually.

It is EULA and I've read many that Microsoft has released. I find them rather entertaining. That anyone would agree to such terms is shocking! They have been getting worse over time too. I imagine the next one they'll be demanding the blood of your first born to run their software. They're so close to that now it is not much of a leap really.

@jacobhinchliffe6659 used lynx for what? I'd have had to have installed lynx in order to have used it. With no readme file there was no way to discover how to install anything either. Arch's default install is pretty minimal. Or it was at the time. Which is fine if you know what you're doing. They expected anyone that installed Arch to have another working PC to look up documentation. At the time I only had one PC myself.

@jacobhinchliffe6659 it was many years ago when I tried installing Arch. As I understand it things are much different now. I think a lot of folks ran into what happened to me. I was in a serious spot. If I didn't have that Mint CD kicking around I don't know what I would have done. With it I was able to download another install image. Without it? I guess my computing days would have been over.

Well, in Linux there are some choices that are more right than other choices are. The sooner folks come around to thinking right the better off they'll be too. Through accident or design there is some structure to how things are now. Which means that fortune favors certain paths. Shocking! I know.

X Window exists so you can have a lot of terminals on your screen at once.
1
@Cabalen Games and Hobbies I've run all of the distros you listed and my distro is better than all of them. Or I'd be running something else.
1
@Nikhilesh Kumar Malik you and me both. Get those smelly feet off my desktop!

Linux is like life; The more you put into Linux the more you'll get out of running Linux.

The opinion of newbs matters little to me. Ignorance is not a solid foundation to base an argument on.

Run this command to let root run GUI applications in your X Window session $ xhost +local:root Magic!

Gnome belongs in the dustbin. It was never any good. Well, 2.6 wasn't untolerable. But that was the only version I ever ran that I could stomach. I've run 1.X and 3.X Gnome versions too. It's garbage!

"Open source community is a good place to get educated" Yeah and arsenic is a cool refreshing drink on a hot summer day too.

No one is gatekeeping. Some of us have just gotten past the gate already. So keep putting one foot in front of the other and you too might get somewhere someday. It is attitudes like yours why I don't bother helping anyone out today. Struggle is good for you. It'll build character.

@X GNU Bio we do that on purpose.

When I tried to run Arch it was flawed garbage. I hear they fixed that though.

@copper4eva was a number of years ago now. I remember installing Mint 7 or maybe 9 afterwards because I had the CD around. But it was already a bit old itself so not quite that long ago. That Mint CD at least got me a working system. When I installed Arch they didn't have so much as a README file in it to tell you how to get started. I looked. They expected you to have a second PC to access their website with. Which I found out after the fact. I only had one PC back then.

@jacobhinchliffe6659 I use Debian. The packages can be a bit stale on it but if I want the latest and greatest I build from source. It's not really what distro you use but rather how you use it. I know Debian's package manager the best so it's what I use. It's the easiest thing for me to find what I need in it.

In Stalin we trust!

Linux has been called an egalitarian society for good cause which is equated with communism. Which is generally contrary to western values. The explanation of why it works due to digital copying is a somewhat confusing thing juxtaposed with the physical world. So your questioning it is valid.

No one should encourage anyone to make the wrong choices. There is right and wrong in Linux too.

Mint is low grade as far as distributions go. I'm sure they have the best of intentions. Unfortunately they lack resources. The Debian team is far more talented.

It sounds to me like you do not get why Linux exists. Linux is about empowering the end user. You don't get powerful by sitting on your lazy ass either. That's just not how it happens. It'd be nice if it was, unfortunately that is not the case in the real world. You gain power through the force of will to overcome all that stands in your way. Triumph through mastery. If you disagree with all of this you can ceede your personal power to others by running Windows and Mac. Good luck to you. I'm sure they have your best interests over theirs. Not!

@EduardoMedinaEdlinks a paintbrush is simple and easy to use. You're probably not going to paint the Mona Lisa if you pick one up though. For to do that requires a special talent.

People that can't handle some hate probably can't handle Linux either.
