  1. Windows is the OS that copies where Linux came from. MS-DOS was QDOS which was a clone of CP/M which was itself a cut rate hack of UNIX.

  8. There are no desktop environments for Linux. Linux is an OS kernel. There are several desktop environments for X Window though. LXQt and Xfce are still popular and maintained. Gnome and KDE are both such hot messes they've each spawned a number of forked projects. Like Mate, Cinnamon and TDE

  13. You just get a watermark on your Windows desktop today that nags you to register. That and I don't think Windows will let you change your desktop background until you're registered. Though I believe there's a registry edit that fixes that?

  14.  @metsolainenpov8771  the only entities in this world that Microsoft care about have billions of dollars. Everyone else can go hang as far as the folks in Redmond are concerned. Microsoft has always relied on software piracy to maintain market dominance. That position allows them to leverage money from those that have it to take. Individual users are so many insects to Microsoft. They really don't care who you are, or what you do. But if you want to boost Windows then that's OK by them.

  15.  @metsolainenpov8771  I encourage all to disobey unjust laws. Microsoft ships their OS with pirated IP in it. So if it is good enough for them then it is good enough for me. You don't think they paid the font foundries for the fonts they use, do you? Because they didn't. But everyone steals fonts and doesn't think a thing of it. Bill Gates stole them first!
