Fancy way to say the king has a dungeon where he tortures people. Because I'm sure he did.

I've heard of the sinking of the White Ship. I can't remember where, but I'd heard of it. I don't think I've ever heard so many details of the event before though.

Do you know why the sun never set on the British Empire? Because God didn't trust them either.

In cold water no one can swim anyways.

The Middle Ages was less than a thousand years ago. Thousands of years ago is the time of the earliest human civilizations. We don't stretch back very far into time at all.

With Rome being sacked twice I'd say it's a weak argument.

The oldest building I've been inside in America is the fort at St. Augustine. It was built between 1672–1695 It feels pretty old. But it's only 329 years old now. Which is a far cry from one thousand.

@GenXrecluse you can do those things. But why stop there? Go to Lascaux. That's 17,000 years old! Unfortunately the public is no longer allowed in there.

They were quite based. They got rid of the followers of the religion of peace too.

People who didn't believe in God were burned at the stake as heretics. So they got to space first.

@sunnny819 times were far tougher in the past so people were a lot less tolerant as a result. Life was brutal and short. That made people a lot more religious. As meeting your Maker was an immediate concern for all.

@KoopstaKlicca average life expectancy was far lower in the past because they simply lacked effective treatments we have today. They had no antibiotics for instance. Infant mortality dragged life expectancy down too.
1
@KoopstaKlicca what you say is correct but that's not how average life expectancy is calculated. Infant mortality is not discounted. So that drags the numbers down dramatically. Life in the Middle Ages is described as, brutal and short.

@KoopstaKlicca I have complete understanding. Life expectancy in the past was much lower than it is now. Past 65 was historically considered borrowed time.
1
@KoopstaKlicca I don't think so. I can understand what you're saying. Just because the average was 42 or so didn't mean no one got older than that. If you were lucky and in good health you could reach a ripe old age in the past. If no one did the average would be even lower. People married much younger in the past as well. They knew their time on this earth was short.
1
@KoopstaKlicca I never said you did. I said it was 42 because that's what it was. Let's be clear what an average life expectancy is. You take all the years of everyone that's lived and add them then divide that number by the number of individuals. That result is the average. If two people live to 60 and a baby dies at birth the average of the 3 individuals is 40 years. That's just how it works.

@Dr_Manhattan_Phd you assume that time moves at a constant rate. We know today that is not the case.
