@DJB635 it wasn't the auto companies that packed it up but rather the country that packed the auto industries up.

@theprojectproject01 don't forget 50 years of democrat control.
4
@seanharan9521 I oppose public transit and dense urban cities too. As far as the tax burden on the rich goes the top 1% pays 24.7% of federal tax. The rest can supply their own money for what they need. No one should have to pay for what others need.
3
You can get homestead properties in Detroit but you have to pay taxes and live in them for 3 years. I think you pay a dollar? But they won't let you have a gun so the chances of you surviving are slim.
2
I love it when a plan comes together.
2
@TheDiameter Henry Ford wrote about who's responsible in Essays from the Dearborn Independent.
2
Yeah but between then and now you'll go broke paying taxes.
2
There was actually a worse section. It was just blocks and blocks of piles of rubble. It was kind of weird. Like the buildings got demolished then the debris was all piled up. It looked like the place had been bombed. Demolition costs money. So that's why it isn't done. To demolish a building you're talking tens of thousands of dollars. You have to haul all of the rubble away too. I'm not sure if you could use the land as farmland. It's probably contaminated.
2
There is no hope for any of these cities while they're run by liberals. Smart money won't go near these places. Without money you can't do anything.
2
Come on midtown wasn't bad then.
1
The people that did it won't be named. They made enough fortunes for even nicer houses for themselves though.
1
The Japanese just built better cars. That coupled with government regulations and corruption hollowed out the industrial core of the city. No jobs no working class. No working class no money. No money no nothing.
1
We have a lot to defend in other parts of the country.
1
The speculators ran the neighborhoods down so they could get them for next to nothing and redevelop them. Just dump drugs into the neighborhood for a while and wait.
1
Nope they're shot. Once you get water intrusion in a freeze thaw cycle environment it's over. The only thing holding those places together today is gravity. The bond between every brick is gone.
1
Me too. But I always went home at night to the suburbs.
1
@damianneve no there are not. I lived in New Jersey. The city I grew up in had excellent access to NYC though. And it was a very lovely place. You could live there and think the City was a million miles away. But you could really get there in 10 minutes if you were in a rush. I know because I did it once.
1
@damianneve I grew up in the 7th richest municipality in the country per capita. Which sure isn't Jersey or Union City.
1
@damianneve it is if you speed in excess of 120 MPH.
1
Why do homeless people get free homes? Working people are having a hard enough time paying for their own homes.
1
@edwardst-pierre1020 nothing is free. Someone has to pay the wages of day care workers. No one is going to do that for free. Money being difficult is called incentive to do better. Make things too easy for folks and they won't be motivated to do anything. So no to all of your hair brained schemes. Struggle! it's what you're meant to do. Life is hard and then you die.
1
@edwardst-pierre1020 you can't give people things for free. It doesn't work. We've tried. If people don't earn what they have then they cannot appreciate it for what it is. Whatever you get for free you treat it as if it is worthless. That's just human nature.
1
@edwardst-pierre1020 that's the market economy. Pimping is a growth industry. I just don't know what I can tell you that you want to hear. Those Asians don't have any more money than they're supposed to. They worked hard for every penny they got. And that's why they're so rich. Because they earned it. They're better than POS poors too. You need to accept that. In this world you either get rich or die trying. Everyone scrambling for the almighty buck is what makes the world go round.
1
@edwardst-pierre1020 manufacturing in Canada? What do you think you can make there? Have you ever worked in manufacturing yourself? It's terribly drab. Boring really. Doing the same repetitive task over and over. How'd you like to drill the same hole all week long? What do you think that kind of work is worth? You willing to work for two dollars a day? Because that's about all they make in China. Of course you stay in the company dorm. So that two dollars is all yours. Mad money! Not that we let you leave the factory. You probably want to send that money back home anyways, don't you? Be careful what you wish for.
1
I was 17 and lived in Northern New Jersey in 1982. I miss the New York metro area back then.
1
Detroit was really devastated by 50 years of democratic control.
1
No one can live there if they can't earn a living there.
1
@montyi8 the city owns most of them today for defaulting on back taxes. They're walk aways.
1
New York shipped all of their homeless to Los Angeles. They put them on buses and told them not to come back.
1
In 1982 I was a senior in high school and one day we decided to take a drive through the Bronx. There were miles of blocks that were just piled up rubble. It was a total wasteland.
1
@floriderllc6862 that happened later. Something else happened first. Caused by other undesirables. The Dearborn Independent will tell you what the world's problem is.
1
Yeah but shipping those jobs overseas made some people wealthy. Money concentrates at the top.
1
Yeah it was all bit too convenient for the developers. Like they brought the drugs and crime in to destroy the borough so they could come in and get all of the real estate.
1
Who said people weren't living in them? Low income people can't expect to live in much.
1
What good is an alarm system if the municipality does not allow you to possess the means to defend yourself? You might as well just stay asleep while you're being robbed. Least then you can wake up refreshed.
1
50 years of corrupt democrat politics and the vulture capitalists of the 80s devastated US manufacturing. When there were no more jobs the working class left. No one working meant no money. You can't tax junkies. It's a vicious cycle. The city went into a tail spin.
1
Everything
1
The deterioration happened because the money moved.
1
It's a free country. If you want to live like a ghetto rat you can. A lot of folks do too. I've been these places and people wouldn't have it any other way.
1
@seanharan9521 I pay tax on every gallon of fuel I buy. And yes I have my own well and septic system. You city rats are not paying my way!
1
@SirNarax why should they contribute more? Why don't you contribute more? You're the one that wants more. A penny saved is a penny earned. The scariest words in the English language are, I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
1
@SirNarax money is only worth something because it is not easy to obtain. If everyone had more money than they knew what to do with then money would be worthless. So the rich are doing all of us a favor by hoarding their money.
1
@SirNarax being the world's reserve currency is why the US dollar is worth what it's worth. But you believe whatever you want to believe.
1
Good times.

Try 5 generations.
