It's either that or you take your chances facing 12 people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

It is only illegal if you get convicted and then run out of appeals.
2
I'd love to know your stance if it was you that got the raw deal.
2
They don't call the USA the land of opportunity for nothing.
2
How do you figure? Most people are sober.
2
@DeadlycheesePeople the problem lies with their body being in my society. So if twitchy over there coked up to their eyeballs gets behind the wheel and has an accident I don't have to be a victim of their selfishness.
2
Rick O'Shay some folks that have jobs that pay them while they serve do jury duty as a change of pace. I wouldn't call it a vacation though. I served some time on a grand jury panel once myself. It was an eye opening experience.
2
Rick O'Shay selection is a complicated process.

Why should we legalize drug abuse? I'm not prepared to deal with the fallout from that. As far as I'm concerned you bastards are all too stupid already.
2
We need to keep criminals locked up. There are people that are just irredeemable. They're not going to go straight.
1
@DeadlycheesePeople that would only be true if no one took those purchased drugs. But addicts buy them to abuse them. Then society is left to clean up the mess.
1
If the criteria was, "serve no purpose to society" we'd have to execute so many people in this country. So so many.
1
We will never end the war!
1
@Alaninbroomfield you are not using your brain comparing apples to oranges. There are more differences between legal and illegal substances than price alone. If we thought you could handle doing dope it'd be legal too. Heck it was legal but society recognized the problems with that. So then hazardous substances were outlawed for the public good. Because the propensity for abuse is simply too great.
1
@SH-kz4fl drug addicts will say or do anything to get their fix. Then there's people that simply don't understand the subject. They're more than happy to share their ignorance too. The substances we've outlawed pose unacceptable hazards. Recognizing that is not always as easy as it should be though. Being a brain surgeon is not for everyone. But if them pot heads get their grass then I want my crack and angel dust! I mean what's fair is fair.
1
@SH-kz4fl speed thrills!
1
Drug abuse is assault.
1
What are other countries doing? They're not capturing criminals or jailing them. In short they're not doing anything.
1
@amazingbollweevil what harmless acts are crimes in the USA?
1
You have no evidence to support the theory that legalizing drugs will reduce crime. Whereas we have established scientific proof that drug abuse leads to diminished mental capacity. People under the influence of mind altering substances often make poor choices. Those bad decisions can carry with them serious negative consequences too. Have you ever heard of the Manson murders?
1
@sabriath what's dumb is you thinking that drug abuse is as ingrained into our culture as drinking was in the 1920s. And even if the two prohibitions were comparable we still need to keep illicit drugs illegal because of the hazard they pose to people. At one time all drugs were legal until their hazards were recognized. The damage done to society abusing these substances far outweighs the damage done to individuals who foolishly abuse them being convicted for their crimes. No drugs are illegal for good reason. If you cannot see that then you are beyond help. Here's a thought though if you absolutely have to get trashed then drink. It is legal. Just don't get caught in public impaired.
1
Don White don't afoul of the law and you do not have to worry about juries.
1
@Sentinel82 at my age I don't know anyone. So there's no one that has it out for me either. Most people are dumb and easily entrapped but I am not most people.
1
I suppose we could just execute drug abusers. Seems a bit harsh to me though.
1
We need to double down then and increase sentencing. We'll have to find the pain point eventually where people are deterred. We'll end the war on drugs when people stop abusing drugs. I'm not giving in to the addicts though!
1
@DeadlycheesePeople me personally? Nothing. But I am not the State. I am merely a citizen of the State. All citizens owe allegiance to the State too. If you don't like it then GTFO! And don't let the border hit you on the way out either. Maybe you can go to North Korea and ask Kim the same question? See how that works out for you.
1
@DeadlycheesePeople I solve problems.
1
@DeadlycheesePeople if you choose not to bow to the authority of government then good luck to you. Because you're going to need it someday.
1
@DeadlycheesePeople everyone thinks they can manage. Right up until the marauding horde shows up at their doorstep. Then they begin to have second thoughts. Or perhaps first thoughts? Some kind of transcendent cognitive process typically ensues.
1
You're damned right! There's just people that are not put together too well. A lot of folks for whatever reason choose to not see that. We tend to call them, "Bleeding heart liberals".
1
@QS729 you have to believe what you see. The trouble today is too many operate on unfounded assumptions. Their feels.
1
@QS729 prison most certainly reduces crime that affects the general populace. When criminals are locked up they cannot prey on law abiding citizens who are not themselves in jail. Beyond that there is always the implied threat of violence that prison represents. If you commit crime then you're headed to jail. Which keeps a fair number of individuals on the straight and narrow. The precise number we can never know. Realize that nothing is perfect or 100%. It is just as good as we can get it to be. There's a billion people on this planet that'd love to be here if they could too. So we must be doing something right. Or at the very least well enough.
1
@QS729 I'd say our present system is highly effective. We live in an ordered society. Hundreds of millions of people live clean decent lives in this country. They're the people we should focus on as far as any improvements go. We need to make that lifestyle as attractive as possible. It is a shame that a certain percentage slip through the cracks in our system. But nothing is perfect. Focusing our efforts too much on those that have will overall be a detriment too.
1
@QS729 when someone breaks the law they forfeit their rights. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Keep your eye on the sparrow.
1
Lock her up!
1
No you wouldn't and you damn well know it too. Then even more people would need protection from hop heads. Stoned cretins doing all manner of stupid things.
1
They need to serve as an example to others. They need to pay their debt to society. If it was your loved one that they killed I'm sure you'd want them to rot for a good long time. 30 years on you'd be at every parole hearing making damned sure they did too.
1
@malcorub folks got to make up for lost time.
