Imagine having a million to spend and 7 million to deduct. Now you're starting to think like a rich person.

@LaurenOliviArt The couple that donated it got a tax write off too. Charitable donations are tax deductible.

It is supply and demand. You're not finding a specimen like that under every rock. You can find a lot of buyers for such a thing too.

@nothinggrand3805 no one actually really knows. All we can say now is we've found no proof yet. But anything's possible.
1
@nothinggrand3805 perhaps. Or maybe we just haven't figured out how to do it right yet?

Technically they're not wrong. All matter is energy. The deuce you leave in the loo is energy. If you have a good art manager you could potentially sell it for a handsome sum too. Wouldn't be the first that has.

Everyone has to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.

They basically are. It's not like they're taking them off the planet. They're just cleaning them up some and putting them where they can be more easily seen.

@dru4670 Gold is an element. Not the rarest but not the most common either.
1
@dru4670 few uses that we're aware of yet. Who knows what someone will discover someday though? People are certainly pondering the objects now.

Hungry people should start digging for crystals.

I'd be surprised if they are not taking a tax deduction for their donation. The filthy rich often need all the deductions they can find too. I'd also be surprised if they didn't end up profiting on their gift. You have to be pretty cunning in this world to become filthy rich.

@Drew Scrivers until someone finds a gigantic nugget.

More like hourly labor.

Crystals do have a nice geometry about them and the material itself is appealing as well. So I can see the attraction.

The Japanese actually invented meth.
1
That's Washington state. Different place.
1
@Redbird1504 it really depends on what they spent versus what they claimed.
1
@Redbird1504 who said it's fraud? Evidence can be easily concealed too. That's all worked out before anything is done. It isn't the sort of crime anyone goes after. I mean they're rich people.
1
Be creative and think of a hobby they haven't.
1
They send the land flowers so it's OK.
1
How do you know they're destroying nature? I'm sure there's plenty of frogs in that mud that would beg to differ with you. All those miners are doing is taking the sharp lumpy rocks out and making it more comfortable for them.
1
You can melt anything with enough heat.
1
This crystal is like 305 cm.
1
@londonuntergunther252 still cheaper than buying a track hoe and digging one out of the ground.
1
@londonuntergunther252 none are cheaper than yo momma is.

What isn't a waste of time?
