Americans are not interested in things lasting. I'll be dead in 20 years. I really don't care what happens then. New houses are nicer than old ones are anyways. Which is why we build more houses in the USA than the entire rest of the world combined manages to build.

You got that right. You don't understand. America is a land of mobility. When settlers moved west they'd burn their houses down so they could pick the nails out of the ashes. We retain that sort of mentality to this day. We really don't want 100 year old structures. Modern buildings with insulation and triple glazing are just a lot nicer. They're cheaper to heat and cool. They have floor plans more suited to modern lifestyles. Though I don't get the open concept myself.

No we don't. We have a lot of land. Plus we ship a lot of our waste out of the country anyways. And so do you for that matter. There's an island of trash off the coast of France.

We have more roofs in the USA. Lots more. To operate on the scale we do you have to be as practical, efficient and economic as possible.

@Hick25 I've been looking at it all my life so it is what I am used to seeing. I prefer the appearance of asphalt shingles over any other roofing system. It says home to me.

@DeathsHood I hate how metal looks. I like nice rows of shingles. It's what I'm used to seeing. And yeah no one wants to be in a house getting rained or worse yet hailed on with a metal roof.

@zeroheroes4081 I can burn whatever I want to burn that's mine on my own property. There's no law against it. If there was it'd be an unjust law that I do not have to obey. I have my ways of solving problems too, permanently. I have a shovel and acres of land no one's ever been on.

I have no problem with old shingles ending up in landfills. It all came out of the ground so it can go back into the ground.
