I have had some HDD failures. It is never a good thing.

@iblockdoors4719 For me it is fans, then maybe RAM and after that HDDs. I had a couple motherboards go bad on me but that was due to one faulty PSU. Since then I've switched to using tier 1 PSUs and I swap them out every 5 years. That alone reduces a lot of PC failures.

@Drakilicious there has always been bum HDD models. For whatever reasons some HDD model designs just don't work. There's flaws inherent to specific models. Storage tech is tricky business. Companies do not always get it right either.

@iblockdoors4719 I run Linux so it does not thrash disks as much as another popular commercial OS tends to. Consequently I have HDDs last a long time for me. My file server is 9 years old now and it is still going strong.

I have a Seagate ST1000DM010-2EP102 in this PC. It is the best! OK to be perfectly honest it is in this PC but I don't actually use it anymore. I got a SSD now.
