Snarky insulting comments are an attempt to motivate the plebes. The hope is they get sick of hearing it and just put in the work to learn themselves. We do have their best interests at heart. The sad fact is you do have to study a lot. On the bright side most information is obtainable. Then if they ever do have an interesting question they'll be better received.

Linus' accent has changed some in 30 years. To the point where he pronounces his own name differently depending on what language he's speaking. He didn't move to the USA until 2004. That's when his accent started to change. We've corrupted him.

When R of K&R was alive he'd give talks at my local LUG. So Dennis was down with Linux. Just FYI

@billeterk there would be less repetition of tasks. Less overall confusion and fragmentation. There was a brief time when Linux almost did unify. But Red Hat effed it up. Almost everyone ran Red Hat 7.2. Then they made up2date subscription. And here we all are now.

@billeterk only the Sith deal in absolutes. So I'm good with anything as opposed to everything. Every little bit helps.

@jescis whenever I've exhausted every avenue with something no one can answer those questions anyways. Because I have asked them. If I can't find the answer then it is really obscure. So I don't even bother asking anymore.

@orbatos Linus has addressed how he pronounces his own name publicly. He said that he says it differently. Now perhaps you'd like to take it up with him? Linus has also said that he's named after the Linus character in the Peanuts. He's just lucky his parents didn't name him after Secret Squirrel. Because those people really cannot say that word. Listening to them try is hilarious too.

0crakhadshizzakizza0 English is the universally accepted language of international communication. Specifically American English. Because those Brits did some bad things. We are the shining light on the hill though. OK maybe we've done a few things too. Overall our record is still better than theirs is.

0crakhadshizzakizza0 well if someone's named Michael we just call them Mike. It's called Americanization. When you come to America you leave all of that Old World nonsense behind. My family did it. We used to have some dumb sounding foreign name. We were white Russian cossacks. But things went rather poorly for our side.

0crakhadshizzakizza0 actually if you move to America you do. When in Rome. You either get with the program or get thrown to the lions! We're called the melting pot. That means you're supposed to homogenize with the populace. We're not into ethnic stuff here. Whatever passes as ethnic is faux. It's the American version.

A Display Manager also allows you to choose from any Window Manager or Desktop Environment you may have installed on your system at the start of your X session. So they can do that. I'm not sure how they know you have them installed though. Distros might set it up? There's probably a config file somewhere. I don't use DMs so I don't know much about them. DMs are pretty useless. I console login and then just startx.
