I've been running Linux for a long time and I've noticed fonts in Linux are a mess. It was worse in the past though. Once upon a time we didn't even have TrueType fonts. We just had bitmapped fonts. They were rough. Very sharp though.

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

@jedipadawan7023 I'm sure some devs have good hardware. But I've known others to not have such great stuff. It's good enough for them though. A lot of open source devs aren't exactly flush with cash.

@elu9780 if you're not using systemd then systemd cannot cause you many issues either. I use systemd and it doesn't really cause me any issues. Well, it is a bit of a memory hog. But other than that things seem to run to me. Processes are started. Things of that nature. I don't screw around with init anyways. So whatever it does I wouldn't know. I don't really want to know. Just so long as everything is doing what it's supposed to be doing.

I already have flawless gaming on Linux. That's because I play the perfect game.

Fonts in Linux are a mixed bag. What you can get is potentially a lot of things. There's a number of competing font renderers that may be used. Even something called HarfBuzz and I'm not sure what it actually is. It says it is a text shaping engine. For whatever that's worth. But apparently it's in everything.

@jedipadawan7023 KDE uses the QT widget libraries which I've heard does affect how fonts render. Although it's nothing I've any personal experience with. So what exactly is going on there I don't know. Folks say screen size plays a role in font appearance too. So you using laptops likely matters. If you were using big 4K screens fonts may look different.

@jedipadawan7023 compiling code isn't competitive gaming. If it takes a few minutes longer people can handle it. I compile software with my i5-4670 and it's bearable for me. I often won't even parralize the build. Just so errors are easier to read.

@johanb.7869 what do you use that font for?

@jedipadawan7023 I use two displays. 1920x1200 & 1920x1080

@jedipadawan7023 yes they are just monitors.

@jedipadawan7023 there's a lot you can do in Linux as far as font appearance goes. The first thing you can do is change your DPI setting. That will have a radical impact on how fonts look. Whether it makes it better or worse is a matter of opinion. You can also organize what fonts you want to use. That should keep you busy for quite some time. Beyond that there's other things you can do as well. There's Linux font guides out there that explain how things work and what steps you can take. In the past I've spent some time fooling around with fonts. Today I do very little on that front. But not nothing. I've found a couple things I like and just implement them.

@JaeDaorl I'm not The Woz. Tetris is his game.
