Nonsense is fine for inspiration. The guy that invented the cell phone was inspired by Star Trek communicators. People do things just because they don't know they're not supposed to often too. If we only did what we know works we'd still all be living in nests in trees.

@spdzodzo no one ever thought it was impossible. It's just extremely risky for dubious rewards. There's landing rockets in most 50's sci-fi B movies. So it's a common trope. One thing the Space Shuttle program proved is there's nothing quite like that new rocket smell.

If the water is boiling in your internal combustion cooling system then you have serious problems. 170-180°F is normal operating temperature. You have to shed that excess heat as best as you can. So you can't be faffing about trying to capture anything. You'd lose more than just some power to friction too. You'd lose bearings. There is an impeller in the cooling system already. But it is driven by the engine to circulate the coolant. It's called a water pump. So not only can you not get energy that way but you have to use energy.

If you study the history of technology it is a slow and painful process. In recent times we've made swift progress in a limited number of fields and people think that means we can advance on a broad front in the same manner. The fact is there's a limited number of talented people and they're all going to focus on the same things. Because they're smart enough to figure out what is best to do. Great minds do indeed think alike.

Joe Biden is still a big supporter of Theranos.

@michaelfrench3396 hot is an objective term. I said it before and I'll say it again now, if your coolant is boiling in an internal combustion engine then you've got serious problems. There's even a name for it, it's called, "boiling over". It does happen and when an IC engine overheats they can seize up then. A condition that would be referred to as, "cooked". Pro tip: When you see smoke or steam coming out from under the hood stop! Unless someone is shooting at you.

@michaelfrench3396 water is going to expand before it boils. Coolant not being pure water has nothing to do with the state of the fluid. If there was any energy in the system you wouldn't need a water pump to drive circulation in the first place. Don't you think people would like to eliminate a part if they didn't need it? Changing a water pump costs hundreds of dollars. You ain't getting too far without one either. Which is why they can charge that to change one. Why can't you just admit that your idea is stupid? In the winter we get free cabin heat out of the cooling system. That's as good as it's ever going to get. And if you've ever blown a heater core then you know that ain't free either.

I like my crude both light and sweet.

The future is Methane clathrate which we can harvest from the sea. The oceans are the world's toilet!

Hydrogen is great when it is mixed with carbon. What we call hydrocarbons, or fossil fuels. The original solar power! Energy so green it's gone dark black. 100% natural. Why it comes straight out of the ground! When hydrogen is produced commercially they crack natural gas to get it. The electrolysis method is wasting a good energy source for a poor one. It's like trading dollars for pesos at a one to one exchange rate.

@messiermitchell4901 we don't use the dug up hydrocarbons so much these days. But that means it's all still there for when we need it. I'm sure at some point in the future people will be sensible and use the energy resource too.

We can eject the warp core if it is going to explode.

@vinnytube1001 Einstein said, If we knew what we were doing we wouldn't call it research.

I use Germany a lot as an example of why renewables don't work. The line I use is, if the Germans can't get it to work then it just doesn't work. Their energy situation is a flipping disaster.

It slices, it dices, it makes Julianne fries! Incredibly if you pay for two plus shipping and handling we'll actually ship you two units. Now how can you beat a deal like that?
