  5.  @stevepanos2050  what is not the only method? Reforming natural gas is the only commercially viable method of hydrogen production. Electrolysis of water is just something they show you in science class. Do that on an industrial scale and you'll go broke!

If you study history you may just find that progress is a slow process. In vast spaces of time it is imperceptible. You are a member of a species that is almost a one hit wonder. We can burn stuff. That's practically it. There's a major debate whether a technological civilization can even arise in a non oxidizing environment. Fire has played such a critical role in our ascension. If you have some free time studying how we got to where we are today is a fascinating story. Kind of a bit pathetic really. You may walk away wondering why we haven't accomplished more. Or what took us so long to get to where we are now. It is a mystery.

  7.  @stevepanos2050  if you think oil is not a major factor in modern warfare then it is you that needs an education, not I. Mechanized forces do not run on fresh air and sunshine. They run on oil! A heavy tanks mileage is rated in gallons to the mile. Their 150 gallon fuel tanks only get them so far. Maybe 50 miles, if you're lucky. Countries on the other hand are vast things. The German solution to the problem was to have the vehicle's final drive mechanism break down before it ran out of fuel. Brilliant! But that is a topic for another day.

  8.  @stevepanos2050  you're going to question my knowledge about World War 2? I read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich when I was 6 years old! Are you sure you really want to go there? BTW the entire strength of the 6th Army was only 285,000 men. So unless those soldiers were having kids with each other they could not have lost 800,000 The 6th is the force Germany lost in Stalingrad, in case you do not know. I can even tell you why Germany lost in Stalingrad. That's because the rest of the southern force went south to get oil! When they got there they found the fields wrecked and they were ordered to go back and relieve the forces in Stalingrad. They never quite got there in time. It is considered one of the major strategic blunders of the war. But then again Germany really had no choice. They needed that oil. I know that. They knew that. The only one here without a clue is you. Did you know that before Germany invaded Russia they were getting their oil from Russia? Stalin was all buddy buddy with them. So when Germany conquered France they did it with Russian oil. For some odd reason after Germany attacked Russia there was a falling out then. Could have been a major factor.

  9.  @stevepanos2050  if the whole army was only 285,000 how could so many have died? I know they had some soldiers on the outskirts but it did not add up to that many. Only Paulus was there. You're talking 3.5 times more than the entire force. In total killed and captured they lost less than 300,000. Which was the entire 6th Army plus some defenders on the outskirts. Maybe Google is wrong? I have been studying WW2 a hell of a lot longer than Google has existed.

  10.  @stevepanos2050  what was Hitler supposed to do? He needed oil. There weren't that many engaged in Stalingrad to have lost so many either. You do not win by withdrawing. The 6th Army had an easy job. All they had to do was defend the flank. That's why they were there.

  18. Because trees are a fire hazard. What grows up must burn down. When forests burn they release all of their carbon into the atmosphere then too. It is the circle of life. Then you have to consider that only one third of this planet's surface is land anyways. Which is why plankton sequesters most carbon on this planet. It is really hard to start a fire in water too.

  19. Breaking water down into hydrogen and oxygen is like trading dollars for pesos at a one to one exchange rate. You are taking a high value energy resource electricity and consuming it to produce a low value fuel hydrogen. It is a terrible deal.

  25.  @serude2559  oil is not dinosaurs. It was an ad campaign that propagated that idea. Beyond time you need the right conditions to form fossil fuel deposits. Those conditions are the more rare factor than time is. You don't have to take my word for it either. Just study the topic more yourself. There's nothing wrong with being informed about what interests you.

  26.  @serude2559  It is rare for organic materials to be in those conditions. Because organic materials have to move from where they naturally occur to a place where they are subjected to heat and pressure. That migration is not normal to happen at all.

  27.  @serude2559  oil deposits can be found in many places. Productive oil fields are still rather uncommon though. Ain't nobody drilling in my backyard and striking oil. Or most other places for that matter.

  28.  @serude2559  how am I wrong? What does price and supply have to do with anything that I have said? Oil supplies and prices are manipulated constantly. They're tools used to maintain control. Oil producing nations lower prices to collapse industries in other countries. It is a tactic. So prices and supplies have nothing to do with actual conditions. It is all artificial. People make decisions.

  39. We simply do not have the tech. We use fossil fuels because they are unparalleled in energy storage density. Gasoline is 9,000 Watt hours per liter. A lithium battery can only hold 250 Wh/l That is 36 times less. We use oil because it is an impossible act to follow.

  45. How do you make light turn a wheel? You could convert the light into electricity but that is incredibly inefficient. So we burn fossil fuels which is the trapped energy of sunlight from hundreds of million years ago. Oil is the original solar energy!
