I found 2049 to be a bit too dry for my tastes.

In universe it was a standard issue service weapon.

The decoration is not useless if it inspires the imagination. That's all it is meant to do. Yet that is an important thing with those that have functioning brains. I wouldn't expect you to understand that though.

Back in the day they probably just cast them in molds. When the movie was made 3D printing hadn't even been invented yet. That wouldn't occur until 4 years after the movie's release. In 1986, the first patent for stereolithography (SLA) was filed by Chuck Hull, who is considered “the inventor of 3D printing”. Blade Runner came out in 1982.

No one cares about any of that. Not their problem.

Not here it isn't. Back in the day Puch made bicycles and mopeds and we called them pueches. The products didn't come with krauts speaking funny. So we said it how Americans would. How words are spoken by people that speak other languages has no bearing on how we say things.

@mikel1998100 Americans would never be confused with Austrians. Unless they came from Pennsylvania Dutch country. There's a lot of German speakers there. I don't think half those people even know where they are. They kind of have their own thing going on. I saw a map once that showed where people thought they came from. Something like 80% of the country thinks they're German. I don't know. I'm part German myself, supposedly. I definitely sound like a New Yorker though.

Nah Ian didn't spend an inordinate amount of time, money and effort making the prop himself. He just looked it over. Which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
