  2. Linus didn't invent git, he wrote it. Other collaborative development system models already existed at the time. Linus simply wrote another. Because the one he liked (Bitkeeper) others screwed up Linux using it. They tried cracking the networking protocol it used. which the developer didn't appreciate. So he revoked Linux's use of his code. Which left Linus in a bit of a spot.

  3.  @piccalillipit9211  the US has every mineral imaginable. We just don't mine it all for various reasons. We even have helium which is exceedingly rare. There's physical reasons why the US is as wealthy as it is. One of those reasons is mineral wealth. We hit the lottery there. We've literally got it all.

  5.  @kaykay7434  I demolished a bar restaurant in a high end mall and it had roaches. We had to dig down pretty deep the find the buggers but they were there. Basically every commercial business that deals with food has them. That mall in the lease every 10 years you had to do a full gut and remodel. Absolutely everything got ripped out. It got stripped down to the demarcation walls. Perfectly good stuff. It all got trashed. Even the display windows. Absolutely everything. Floor treatments got ripped up. The columns were stripped. We'd go in after hours and do it. Work all night long. Can't have that noise during business hours, you know?

  7.  @wizaaeed  the guy in this video said it started at $200 a square foot to do the conversion. How is that affordable? You must think all buildings are pretty much alike. I've built a couple malls. So I know what they are. They're very basic boxes. They lack the utilities you need in housing. Floor stores don't even have heat. There's no plumbing. There's no insulation. There's a lot of no nothing. You got a concrete slab, block walls and a concrete roof. Then a bunch of commercial electrical circuits for lighting. That run on a voltage you can't plug anything into. So they don't do you any good. In fact you'd be better off without them. It's going to cost money to remove it too.

  10. All you need to cook rice is a pot. You put twice as much water as rice into the pot and let it cook for 20 minutes. That's it. It's a half a step above simply boiling water. You do not need a special appliance to just cook rice in. I'm no magic chef and I can cook rice.

  11. $125,000 could be the upper range of a wafer value. If you had a yield of 250 chips that'd be $500 a chip. But I don't think you'd fit 250 chips that valuable on a 300 mm wafer. You lose a lot on the edges. Squares don't fit in circles all that good. So it's probably more of a theoretical maximum value.

  18.  @chriswright8074  1 and 0 are defined voltage levels in logic. Generally off is 0 and on is 1 with switching. As to how transistors are made into logic gates that's complicated. There's basic logic circuits though that combined do higher level things. A CPU will have an instruction set. Those instructions are read by the processor and each instruction tells the processor what to do. The CPU has registers and it operates on the data in those registers based on the instructions it receives. It gets complicated just due to the sheer speed and volume being operated on. Code has to run on physical hardware. There's no such thing as all code based. On some level electrical charges are moving around.

  21.  @lashlarue7924  there certainly different levels you can interact on. You can definitely install Linux and browse the web without any fuss. Unless you want to use wi-fi. Then it may be a tad tricky. With the utilities available and all of the configuration files in the system it goes far deeper than that though.

  26. I had to return the last item I purchased off Amazon. I sure hope they didn't resell that to anyone because it was really broken. At least it wouldn't work for me. I was like, What am I stupid? It was a cordless string trimmer and it worked for a second and then the next time I tried pulling the trigger it was jammed. It shouldn't have been that hard to do. So I boxed that sucker back up and shipped it right back.

  30. Originally those floor stores had no plumbing at all. At least they never did in any mall I ever built. A restaurant will have plumbing and the public restrooms do too. Those stores have nothing though. Running pipes costs money. I saw she had a sink so they had to run water to that.

  35.  @jennychuang808  why we're not doing it now has more to do with economics than anything else. But we invented the IC chip. So it's not that we can't, it's just that we don't. You should ponder that. But soon all of that is going to change. Intel's angstrom process will be the most advanced. That's slated to come online next year.

  38. Years ago when I lived in New Jersey I pumped gas as a job when I was young. The pay sucked and the work was pretty dull but it was a job. Little known fact there's women that get their rocks off flashing gas station attendants. They'd come in with a long coat on and nothing underneath. Truth is stranger than fiction. That and Peter Dinklage was a regular at one gas station I worked at. He'd pop out of his car and walk around and BS with us. One day my coworker asked him, Are you in movies? He smiled and said, Maybe. This was all of course before he was famous. I know you're wondering how he drove. He had wooden blocks on his pedals. Other than that it was just a regular car. Life's strange indeed.
