Don't bet on it.

Why? A Moon base is just stupid.
3
Don't bet on it.

@st4rlightr4v3n4 the Moon is a lot of things. Ideal environment is not one of them though. The experience of trying to create a habitat on the surface of the Moon would prove quite impractical to do too. Trying to exist in a razor sharp abrasive dust that smells like rotten eggs and gunpowder is not my idea of a good time at all. That's what the dust on the Moon is like. All of it!

@malone005 Americans are fed up with propaganda and the lying politicians pushing it to promote their crooked schemes.
2
@malone005 it does not take a genius to not fall for lies. Not when you know it is all a lie to begin with. Then operate on that premise.
2
@odysseusrex5908 you out think yourself.

@Vict0r1984 The US went to the Moon over 50 years ago. Our landing sites were bases while our astronauts were there too. So no one is doing anything on the Moon before the US did.
1
@Vict0r1984 remind me what cosmonaut was on the Luna mission. I'll wait.
1
@Vict0r1984 the only reason the USSR focused on rockets was because they had no chance of catching the USA when it came to strategic bombers. Once the USA did work on rockets we passed the USSR within 10 years. Then their lead was gone and the USA set every record in space ever since. So really the USSR being first was just them admitting they were losers.
1
@Vict0r1984 LUNA 16 was the Soviet mission to return a sample from the Moon. It happened 10 months after Apollo 11. So not first. If you think Patriot is the USA's only ABM system you do not know much.
1
@Vict0r1984 it is not like the Soviets told us at the outset that we were going to be in a rocket competition. So they did have years to gain a lead. Once we realized that we needed to compete in rocketry in a few years we surpassed soviet capability. We've been ahead ever since too. You know whose vehicles go mach 14 that they need to intercept with their mach 3.5 missiles? I'll give you a hint. The letters on the side of that ride read USA.
1
Weapons are banned from space.
1
No cash him outside.
1
@ariochiv no one can beat NASA to the Moon. Because they were there 52 years ago now.
1
@DiegoGomez-pk5tg We'll see how successful they are.
1
Put down the crack pipe. No one is evacuating off Earth.
1
@uglyguyfe there is no craft on the Moon. There is no major benefit to putting a craft on the Moon either compared to say just a craft parked in space. There are plenty of negatives about the surface of the Moon though. Starting with the material that covers the Moon itself. The dust known as lunar regolith is an extremely abrasive material. It is detrimental to all of our technology. The dust on the Moon is unlike anything you can find on Earth. On Earth there is a process called erosion that simply does not exist on the Moon. Being as there is no air or water to make it happen. When something slams into the Moon and fractures rock creating dust those particles remain as sharp as when the they were created forever. The US only went to the Moon as a publicity stunt. There's good reasons why we never went back. The place sucks! It quite literally stinks. It smells like rotten eggs and gunpowder. If you're there you're going to track dust into your habitat. And you will smell it then.
1
@georgedoolittle7574 the Moon is not Portugal. The far side of the Moon can be observed as easily today as anywhere on Earth can be using the same methods. In fact any lunar activity would just stick out more. I do not think you've thought your diabolical plan out too well.
1
@arno_grnfld455 excavating lunar minerals and transporting them to Earth would cost thousands of times what they'd be worth on the surface of Earth. So it'd only make sense to do if you're looking for a great way to go bankrupt. It cost us 24 million dollars to bring back each and every pound of Moon rocks in Apollo. Now maybe you can drive that price down somewhat but how far? Even gold only costs $22,320 a pound. So what do you think is so valuable on the Moon to be worth mining it?
1
@st4rlightr4v3n4 I am not convinced that at this point in time we can really afford to invest in such a project. By we I mean we as a human species too. A project of this proportion is going to affect every living being on this planet. All will be impacted by it in some way. It's just that big. On the order of build a Moon base or solve the global energy crisis big. Because with what it's going to cost you could do one or the other. Cost is the term we use today for invest work and resources. The price tag of a Moon base will be astronomical too. It will be by far the most expensive thing our species has ever done. Which up to now was Apollo. Going to the Moon cost a huge fortune. Building on the Moon will cost far more. Just going cost us over a quarter of a trillion dollars too.
1
@st4rlightr4v3n4 the only legitimate purpose of our government is to protect the nation. Full stop. So no funds spent in the pursuit of that are EVER a waste! Every tax dollar we have could go to defense and it would be entirely justified. The F-35 is a fine 5th generation joint strike fighter. It is what we need to remain a sovereign entity.
1
@nagualdesign the entire interstate highway system was many projects funded over a very long period of time. It cannot be considered a single project. The goals of our entire interstate highway system are not even all the same. You'd be surprised to learn why it was really built. It is primarily a military asset. Civilians are just allowed to use it when the military does not need it. Parts are built in such a way they can be used as air strips etc.
1
@st4rlightr4v3n4 we're not interested in maintaining a balance of power. We want an overwhelming advantage. We're willing to go to extraordinary lengths to have it too. Peace through superior firepower! We live in an extremely dangerous world. But many lose sight of that fact because of recent history. Just about everyone is dead now from the last time our species lost control. Pray you never have to find out firsthand what a level playing field really looks like. One where we'll have to go out and actually earn our bones.
1
@odysseusrex5908 I don't know about that. From what I'm seeing unmanned missions are best for scientific research in space. Not too sure about the necessity of living on hostile worlds either. If you really need help waiting a few days may be a bit more than you can bear. Realistically you're talking weeks to get a launch ready at minimum. We don't keep rockets on pads ready to go. Least not the kind that can fly to the Moon. That's not likely to change any time too soon either.
1
@odysseusrex5908 robots are evolving at a rapid rate. Inside of 10 years one will be able to outrun you.
1
@tsingchan6794 what are we going to do with an inert element?
1
@tsingchan6794 the trouble with fusion is it is always 30 years away. 30 years ago it was 30 years away and today it is still 30 years away. 30 years from now it'll be 30 years away then too. You'll be dead before anyone figures it out.
1
@tsingchan6794 why would the western world think that is impossible? The Soviets attempted that same mission around the time when we landed men on the Moon. It was feasible then and it remains feasible today. We certainly could do it. We choose to land men instead because it was more impressive. Apollo was bringing a fire hose to a pissing contest.
1
@tsingchan6794 how much scientific progress is achieved by doing something that could have been done 50 years ago? I am of the belief that there are better things to do than most space exploration now. The things we need done are much closer to home. Discoveries do crop up in unlikely places though.
1
@tsingchan6794 yeah we found out just how bad the Moon sucks when we went there. The Moon is an alien planet and being such is radically different than our experiences on Earth have prepared us for. On Earth we have the process of erosion. There's no erosion as we know it on the Moon. So that makes Moon dust different than the dust we encounter on Earth. You'd think dust is dust but when dealing with the Moon you'd be wrong. Moon dust is not like Earth dust. Moon dust is more like little gremlins sharpened every bit of dust. So it was all razor like and just wants to abrade and cut everything. Within hours Moon suit seals began to fail for our astronauts. Once that Moon dust got in it started wrecking everything. Then there's the smell. The Moon literally stinks! There's no air on the Moon so you can't smell it. But once you've tracked Moon dust back into your craft you can smell it then. The smell has been described as a combination of gunpowder and sulfur. Which is not particularly pleasant. It ain't quite rose pedals. The Moon is nasty. It is like a big ball of stinky sharp pins and needles. So good luck building a permanent base there.
1
@arno_grnfld455 what you really need to worry about on the Moon is high energy particles. There's no protection from cosmic radiation up there. When you're up there you randomly see streaks of light as the particles go through your eyeballs. Sounds fun, doesn't it?
1
@arno_grnfld455 thinking about radiation will not protect you from it.
1
@arno_grnfld455 you do know how heavy lead is, don't you? And mass is a major issue boosting it into space. It costs something like $20,000 to send a pound of weight up into deep orbit. A pound of lead is not much either. It is less than two and a half cubic inches. Or about 40 ml if you like that metric stuff.
1
@arno_grnfld455 none of what you said has convinced me that the Moon is any garden spot. Let me know if they find any oil though. That might make it worthwhile to go.
1
@arno_grnfld455 sure why not? Moon dinosaurs! Then there's mineral oil. Some don't believe in your decomposition theory and say that oil is produced in rocks.
1
@arno_grnfld455 because there's no air, hard cosmic radiation and the Moon literally stinks. Who told you the Moon has abundant resources anyways? Plus it is expensive as hell to go to the Moon. Place is a barren ball of dust.
1
@arno_grnfld455 oil is the fuel we need. There's more hydrogen in gasoline by volume than there is in liquid hydrogen. That's why we call oil a, "hydrocarbon".
1
@arno_grnfld455 killing the Earth? Goddard's original liquid rocket used gasoline as a fuel. Just goes to show how much you know.
1
@arno_grnfld455 the Earth is fine. The mainstream media's hysteria has mislead you. None of them are doing anything personally to reduce their carbon emissions. They just want you to get by with less so they can have more. They're not giving up their private jets, SUVs or beachfront mansions.
1
@arno_grnfld455 recognizing it doesn't change anything either. The simple fact is that we're doing what we have to do. We're also doing the very best we can too. Exploiting fossil fuels has been the greatest boon to our species since the end of the last ice age. It's actually had a greater impact on our growth. We're apparently oil eating parasites. At least that's what one would conclude by examining our growth pattern. The real problem is global human overpopulation. But no one will talk about that. In my lifetime alone human population has more than doubled. The change is palpable too. There's just a lot more people around than there were when I was young. Pre-industrial global human population was around 200 million. Today there's 8 billion people on Earth. There's your problem! But nature will find a way of achieving a balance. It always does.
1
@arno_grnfld455 I'll tell you what isn't happening. Anyone giving up their way of life over a half baked theory. You cynical cultists will never tell us what to do! If you try it will be over your own dead body. No one infringes on my liberty! I'd sooner see the world burn.
1
@arno_grnfld455 find someone that cares. I like it hot.
1
@arno_grnfld455 there's 8 billion in the world now. Try to keep up.
1
@arno_grnfld455 not my problem either.
1
@arno_grnfld455 what personal insult?
1
@arno_grnfld455 that's 8 billion.
1
@STSWB5SG1FAN have fun.
1
The first boots that landed on the Moon were in 1969.
1
@scottmanley yet.
1
Setting up a Lunar base is idiocy.
1
Not at US taxpayer expense they can't.
1
The US knows the infeasibility of a Moon base. Remember we've been there.
1
What a waste of treasure.
