Comments by "Paul Frederick" (@1pcfred) on "Why Massive Abandoned Domes were Deserted in Arizona's Desert" video.
@JeffDeWitt I'm leaning either towards a manufacturing defect or vandalism as to why the domes are failing now. But maybe they never were completed? There doesn't seem to be any steel reinforcing in the collapsed dome and a lot of foam is exposed on the remaining domes. None of that seems right to me.

@MrJest2 cheaper and easier. How those domes are made sounds easy. In practice it's not as easy as it sounds though. I can't imagine how miserable it must be spraying foam and shotcrete inside of them.

Casa Grand-E!

There's some part of this story that we're not being told. Because everything being as it should be those domes should be in pretty good condition today. If they were constructed as described they'd practically be bomb proof.

The domes in this video don't look like they could stand up to a stiff wind to me. They weren't made too well.

@chaos.corner you are not telling me anything that I do not already know.

They abandoned the domes in the desert too it seems.

It's still wasteland as far as I'm concerned.

Who said they were expensive? They're relatively cheap for their size.

I see the concept of stock photography eludes you.

Yeah but it's a dry heat.

If you house homeless people they're not homeless anymore and that ruins everything.

Many should've already noticed that The Big Guy gets 10%

When something is encapsulated in concrete it might as well not even be there then. That's how they dealt with the radioactive core of Chernobyl. It's not too healthy to be near either.

It sounds like the highlight of Arizona to me. The only thing they make in Arizona is that tea.

I've a feeling the construction was never finished. It looks like there's steps missing to me. The company did go under before construction was completed. So it is a safe bet construction ended prematurely. The moment a check doesn't come it's over. No one gives the benefit of the doubt. They'll walk midday on a job.

@jeffputman8242 that's not how they do those domes. You inflate the bladder and get layers on it then do the reinforcing. Otherwise you don't really know where to put the reinforcing. Plus you have to erect scaffolding to work off of. The beauty of a bladder dome is the bladder is your formwork and scaffolding. At least in theory. It was a hippy thing.

The rebar rusts and expands and cracks the concrete. And that's how reinforced concrete fails. Now you've heard of it.

I believe residents of Arizona are called, “Sand Fleas". Fight me!

Look around. They're clearly in a desert.

I wonder what caused the domes to collapse? Was it vandalism? The way they were built they should have lasted for quite some time. Unless there was some flaw in their construction?

@seankeikbusch9404 looking at the domes in this video I'd say they were never completed. They look to be lacking reinforcing and the outer layer to me. I know how it can go in construction. Jobs do fall through. When they do work stops in mid swing.
