  1. That shoveled chicken manure makes for great soil amendment, but compost it first. Add leaves, weeds, grass clippings, water. Wood, say one forming the base of a wood pile should NEVER touch soil or ground (dampness=rot). Get some bricks, stone or concrete block to set your bottom row of 2x4s or 4x4s or whatever.
