Lost me at dark energy.

I'm a non-theist, but my joke is, physicists redouble their effort to identify and understand all subatomic particles and forces. Suddenly, the sky grows dark, the clouds open up, and there is blinding light. A deep booming voice says, "Hey, quit looking around in there! There's nothing but gobbledygook there!"

The latest is a new estimate for galaxies in the universe at 6-20 trillion! Each galaxy with 100 million to one trillion stars, with untold gajillions of planets. Many of them with life and likely intelligent life. Planets filled with sinners that need saving. So Jesus must be awful awful busy dying for all those sentient alien life forms that were created flawed, like Man. Meanwhile, Jesus, in his alter ego, God the Father, is busy 24/7/365 intercepting and listening to googolplex numbers of prayers. He finally admitted, creating an infinite numbers of universes was a bit too much ....

The Moon and Mars are cold, dead, airless bodies. Mining and recovering He-3 back to Earth form the Moon for carbonless nuclear fusion reactors and precious metals is intriguing and hopeful. But serious dangers and distances are myriad for human space travel and is almost entirely unnecessary. Exploration, research and work is best served by robots. Besides, we are so so deep in national debt we can't even afford a plastic rocket model.

YES, alien beings HAVE visited Earth and recently. They found no intelligent life.

The "Great Filter" (advanced civilization destroys itself in the mad quest for energy and resources) and unconquerable distances of space make interstellar travel essentially impossible. Even electromagnetic signals dissipate in the vastness of space.
