GM, Ford & Chrysler are focused on making higher profits, not improving quality as the Japanese do
26
This is why it is better to take it to an independent mechanic or shop. You cannot trust the dealer. They just want to make money and get the car repaired as quickly as possible
26
I've heard of the tern Italian Tune-Up. It is good to drive your car fast on the highway to clean up the debris in there

The Corolla was refreshed for the 2017 model year, redesigning the front nose/grill and updating the dash. They added Toyota Safety Sense. Also, added the XSE/XLE trims. The S became SE. Unfortunately, they did not update the infotainment system, so it is stuck with the outdated Entunes 2.0 and no Android Auto/Apple Car Play.
6
Car Manufactures, especially the American Big 3 (GM, Ford & Chrysler) are looking for ways to reduce manufacturing costs, by trying to make parts of the car cheaper
5
Toyota introduced it's Safety Sense suite in 2017 as standard equipment (meaning no extra cost), but the American automakers (GM, Ford & Chrysler) would charge extra for it or only offer it on higher trims. The safety sense suite is pre-collision system with emergency braking, lane departure alert/keeping, automatic high beam headlights, adaptive cruise control (radar) and sway alert. Starting in 2018, the government required all cars to have rear backup cameras. That can add to the cost of the car
3
Since Toyota is the most reliable brand, you wouldn't thing there would be so many Toyota's needing repair
3
I like that Toyota keeps the heat & a/c controls from the infotainment system as they should be. Some manufactures systems are too complicated and if the heat and A/C controls are integrated in the system, if the system breaks than you can't use the heat and A/C
3
yes it has saved me from a rear-end collision a few times, but sometimes it has incorrectly activated
3
Yes they don't need to completely redesign it from scratch. That is a problem with the American automakers - GM, Ford & Chrysler. Instead of redesigning and improving the car, they just get rid of the old model and come out a new model. Toyota and Honda doesn't do that. This is how the Japanse Automakers are different from the American Automakers
3
Around 2005, Toyota's quality dropped. When they redesigned the Camry for 2007 model year and Corolla the following year, they used more cheap plastics in the interior then the previous model had. Also, they had the unintended acceleration problem with sticky gas peddles
3
What makes Toyota reliable is that use high quality parts when building cars. They aren't like GM, Ford & Chrysler who use cheaper quality parts to reduce manufacturing costs.
2
That's great news that the Toyota dealership will honor it because not all dealerships will do that. My local Toyota in Virginia dealer has a new owner and before that new management. A few years an automotive group bought the dealership.
2
Unfortunately there are some dishonest mechanics out there that just want to make money off of you.
2
There is a mechanic that doesn't like that Toyota decied to drop the V8 and replace it with a V6 Turbo. He says turbo's don't last as long as non turbo engines
2
Toyota infotainment system was outdated and they wouldn't put Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in the older models. Only in the new models they are putting it
2
Toyota CEO said no more boring cars. Since they were boring they were called appliances
2
The quality of the cars manufactured in Canada is also good. My 2018 Toyota Corolla was made in Canada. I've noticed many of the newer Toyota models are made in Japan now instead of Canada. The one place you don't want your car to be made in Mexico, where the quality isn't as good there as the Mexicans build them cheaper.
2
Despite the advancements in technology, auto manufactures have not been able to eliminate maintenance. That said, preventive maintenance is the key to keep your vehicle running well
2
Mechanic Scotty Killmore owns a 1994 Toyota Celica
2
Dealerships will reject cars and send them to auctions because they either have a major problem that they don't want to fix or high mileage
2
After driving in snow where they put salt on the roads, you should wash the under cartridge to prevent rust
2
CarFax may not list that the car was in a flood. Always look underneath the car to see if it rusting. If is rusty don't buy it. If a car hasn't be properly maintained such as regular oil changes and it burns oil don't buy it. Even Toyota's that are not properly maintained will burn oil. They did have some engines that a design flaw causing them to burn oil
2
If you keep your car on low tank all the time, that will wear out the fuel pump which is an expensive repair. Always fill when you get below 1/2 tank
2
The Big 3 - Chrysler, GM & Ford use cheap plastics in the interior and use cheaper quality parts to reduce production costs as cars have gotten more expensive to build
1
The Toyota Previa from the '90s was a weird egg-shaped minivan
1
Even the Corolla had blank switches because some features were offered in Canada and not USA or just on the higher trims
1
You should not deferre mainitenace on your old car. Some things should be fixed sooner then later. Also don't use cheap Chinese knock offs replacement parts
1
Unfortunately manufactures have removed the transmission fluid dipstick which means you can't check it anymore. They say because the fluid will last the lifetime of the transmission
1
When Toyota redesigned the Corolla for the 2014 model year, they kept the same reliable engine from the previous generation. They didn't go and create a brand-new engine.
1
Unfortunately there are many mechanics that are dishonest. They are trying to scam you in order to make money.
1
Consumer Reports says that new Toyota truck is not as reliable as other Toyota's
1
Dealerships want to get cars in and out as quickly as possible.
1
It sounds like the other shops didn't know how to troubleshoot this car. You shouldn't assume its the alternate and replace it. That is not how to fix a car. You have to troubleshoot such as pulling fuses
1
In late 2000s, Toyota's quality started falling
1
The American brands (GM, Chrysler) don't follow the Kazi model. They care more about profit then quality and don't like to fix things for free because they don't like to lose money and they don't care about the customer the way the Japanese (Toyota, Honda) do
1
Usually if many air bags are deployed, the insurance company will total the car
1
The problem of start stopping frequently is that it will wear out the starter sooner. This causes more wear and tear, so it isn't a good idea to keep starting and stopping
1
As this car is 24 years old, it may not be worth fixing all the problems you showed especially with that rust
1
Those big SUVs are very expensive and in some cases dealer marks them up - even Toyota.
1
Unlike the American automakers (GM, Ford & Chrysler) who make their cars stylish, Toyota focuses on making its cars of good quality, durable, long-lasting and reliable
1
This is why it is better to take it to an independent mechanic or shop. You cannot trust the dealer. They just want to make money and get the car repaired as quickly as possible
1
No, you should not flush the fluid. You change the fluid. Mechanic Scotty Kilmer says do not flush because that could cause problems with the tranmission
1
This is why you shouldn't buy a car sight unseen
1
Other manufactures (GM, Ford & Chrysler) will use cheaper quality parts to reduce manufacturing costs that don't last as long as Toyota
1
For Auto Insurance, there is no such thing a long-time loyal customer. They raise prices almost every year. It is a good idea to install a dash cam as it can prove that you were not a fault in case someone crashes into you in an accident
1
Toyota made the mistake of buying frames from an American company that rusted. Toyota did sue that company
1
Toyota was slow to adopt to new technology because they wanted to keep reliability. They were one of the last automakers to adapt Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
1
Just like when Toyota redesigned the Corolla for the 2014 model year, they carried over the same engine from the previous generation. Why create a new engine when you have a reliable tried and true engine?
1
Unlike other auto manufactures (Honda & Volkswagen), Toyota doesn't put allot of high tech such as digital gauges on the vehicles they make and they aren't the first to have the tech when it comes out. Toyota waits to see how reliable the tech is
