Toyota doesn't want to change its engine because it is so reliable and so the Corolla has always been underpowered
131
Where's the Toyota Camry on the list of longest lasting cars? The Camry is the most reliable sedan and has been the most popular selling car in the USA since 1997
85
2016 was when the Civic was redesigned which is why you shouldn't buy when it's first redesigned
77
On modern cars, if you leave the headlights on, they will automatically turn off after a short time parking. Also, make sure to close doors/trunk and lock your car, so that the car's computer knows to turn all the lights and electronics off.
76
I saw a new Chevy commercial where they say "I switched to Chevy for dependability" Ya right, Chevy's are not reliable
44
Nissan has the most unreliable CVT
40
The Corolla is economical, safe, reliable, roomy and inexpensive. It is the only car to have safety features standard on all trim levels. It also has the brightest headlights. Negatives is that has the slowest engine in the compact segment and handling is not good. Also, it doesn't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
18
The Korean automakers Hyundai & KIa are not as good quality or as reliable as Toyota. However, they offer some features that Toyota doesn't. Toyota has been slow to adopt new technology. They were late in the game with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while other automakers had already offered it. Also, some don't like Toyota is charging a subscription to use features like Remote Start
16
It's unfortunate that these dealerships or salesman are scamming people. Buying a new car is one of the most hated things people do.
16
The Korean automakers (Kia and Hyundai) are not built as well as the Japanese (Toyota & Honda)
13
Look at that, the top 4 brands are Chrysler brands. Chrysler is the least reliable of the domestic brands which suffer from poor quality. We don't know what Stellantis plans to do with the Chrysler and Dodge brands as several Chrysler & Dodge models have been cancelled over the last few years
13
Toyotat's can go 300,000 or 400,000 miles if taken are of. The Corollla and Camry are the most reliable cars
11
Chrysler products suffer from poor quality and reliability. Americans are not fans of Italian. As for Nissan, their quality has fallen since merging with Renault
11
Toyota is the most reliable car brand and their value drops very slowly compared to other brands
9
You should not run your car to almost empty as that can wear out the fuel pump. Get gas when you pass half a tank of gas
9
or even taking your vehicle in for service. Buying a new car is one of the most hated things we do.
8
GM/Ford/Chrysler use hard/cheap plastics because they are trying to make the car as cheap as possible
7
The Nissan Sentra is dated compared to the Toyota Corolla. Since Renault merged with Nissan, Nissan's quality has fallen
7
Honda's & Toyota's have low depression value due to good quality & reliability. They also have low maintenance costs. Regular oil changes is the most important maintenance you should do because dirty oil will damage your engine. The japanese don't built there cars cheaply like the American brands do
7
Newer cars are more complicated as they run by computer and have allot of electronics. This makes it more complicated and expensive to repair
7
Unfortunately, Honda used Takota airbags in many of its models - more than other auto manufactures
6
Batteries normally last around 4 to 5 years. A sign that is getting weak, is that the dash lights seem dimmer than normal and that the car takes longer than usual to start.
5
A used 2017-2019 Toyota Corolla is just as expensive as a new 2022 Corolla. Another disadvantage of buying the older model is has the outdated infotainment system that doesn't have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay
5
I like the screen is up higher. It was too low in the model model
5
GM, Ford & Chrysler have stopped making small cars as they less popular which means less profit. Even Toyota discontinued the Mazda made Yaris and Honda dropped the Fit in the USA
5
Since FIAT bought Chrysler, Jeeps are built as good as they used to be. People don't like Italian engines. Chrysler have always suffered from poor quality/reliability and merging with FIAT didn't help.
4
Dodge should not have cancelled the Caravan which they invented 40 years ago. They should have redesigned/updated it. Also, Carlos, the former CEO of Stellantis didn't understand that Americans don't want Italian Junk such as the Dodge Hornet which is an Alfa Romeo. No one wants electric cars. Chrysler/Dodge needs a new platform to build cars
4
OF the 4 minivans, Chrysler is the least reliable minivan and Toyota is the most reliable
4
Unfortunately, the Japanese models don't have the best infotainment systems and Toyota is so slow to update. They just added Apple CarPlay and are still working on Android Auto that every other manufacturer has.
4
Against: The plastic interior door handles. Previous model Corolla they were metal. I don't like how Toyota is cheap with the Corolla treating it as an entry level car. Just because it is compact doesn't it has to have cheap hard plastics inside. However, the seats are more plush and better material then the previous model
4
The Toyota Sienna minivan is more reliable than the Honda Odyssey van. There are only 4 minivans made today from Chrysler, Honda, Toyota & Kia
3
Dealers have high overhead costs and so they are looking for ways to make more money off of customers
3
It is thought the Chrysler brand might be the first to go. Stellantis may close the Chrysler HQ in Detroit. Chrysler and Dodge have cancelled several old models and not come out with new models. As we know, Chrysler products have suffered from poor quality and poor reliability which is why they don't sell well
3
After driving in snow, spray water in the underbody to remove the salt because it can cause rust
3
The SmartKey (push to start), sunroof and 7" Etunes plus infotainment system are optional on the SE - part of the premium package, but standard on the SE manual.
3
Chrysler has long suffered from poor build quality and poor reliability. They are the worst of the Big 3 American automakers
3
But what about Android Auto? That should also be standard. I'm frustrated that Toyota hasn't put Android Auto in all its vehicles
3
I have an SE with the Premium Package that includes the optional "Smart Key" system
3
What about the Toyota Corolla?
3
Disklikes: Still no Android Auto that everyone else has and not the best infotainment system on the market
3
Since Chrysler is FiatChrysler they have unreliable Italian engines
3
Honda is not good at making big engines, which is why the Honda Odyssey is unreliable. The Toyota Sienna is the most reliable minivan. Besides Kia, there is the Chrysler minivan which may not be reliable
2
Just like Toyota only offers the manual in the SE trim, the hybrid is only in the LE trim. Maybe in the future, they will offer in other trims. Since it just came out, they want to see how popular the hybrid Corolla will be
2
In Minnesota, they are banning drive thrus
2
you can take the hubcaps off to reveal the rims
2
Stellantis, owner of Chrysler, requires a subscription to access the diagnostic information. So even an independent professional mechanic has to subscribe to access the data. It's no longer simply plugging a diagnostic tool into the OBDII port to diagnose a problem. Some luxury brands require a code to be reset for the new battery to work properly
2
yes, too bad you can't get a sporty hybrid (SE/XSE)
2
I own a 2018 Toyota Corolla SE with a premium package. It has been very reliable and only has 9,100 miles. The local Toyota dealer keeps sending me notices that they want to buy it back and the trade-in value could be as much as $18,000. I bought it new for $20,000. The only thing I don't like is that is has the outdated Entunes 2.0 system that doesn't have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while the new model has the newer system that has Apple and Android. Toyota isn't updating the system in their previous model Corolla, leaving customers stuck with outdated system.
2
@richardepstein3494 which is why they went bankrupt at the end of the decade. America's are no longer putting up poor quality after the Japanese arrived with better quality and more reliable cars
2
121 hp is lower than the 1.8 gas engine at 139 hp. Other trims offer a spare tire. The rear seat is a little more squished than the old model. Push Button is not standard on other trims. The only other trims with that digital guage is the XSE/XLE
2
Other trims do offer a spare tire
2
true. the sticker on used car says "as-is" meaning no warranty and before buying have a trusted mechanic inspect it
2
You forgot the Toyota Corolla
2
The Honda Odyssey may have much more high tech infotainment system then the Toyota Sienna, but it's more expensive and less reliable
2
Since modern cars have many computers and electronic parts, those can drain your battery
2
All the Big 3 Detriot Automakers have suffered from poor quality and poor reliability because they focused on making higher profits and cost-cutting and the expense of quality. They use cheaper plastics in the interior and other cheap quality to reduce costs
2
Unfortunately, GM's quality has fallen as they've gotten cheaper making cost-cutting measures. Toyota makes those safety sense features standard on all times, whereas Chevy is only optional. They should be standard. It sounds like Chevy is the only one that doesn't make it standard
2
the sticker on used car says "as-is" meaning no warranty and before buying have a trusted mechanic inspect it
2
I think SE as he showed
2
Wow, Acura is much higher then Honda and Lexus. Honda makes Acura
2
Stellantis has been neglecting Chrysler and won't sell the brand. They've discontinued several Chrysler and Dodge models and have not come out with any new models. They claim are going to electrify the Dodge Charger/Challenger. The great grandson of Walter P Chrsyler, wants to bring Chrysler back to an American brand. Chrysler had long suffered from poor quality and poor relability
2
This car is a little smaller than the Toyota Corolla and a smaller engine. Because it is a Mazda2, it doesn't have Toyota's safety sense. Unlike the Corolla, push to start/smart key is standard and LED headlights are not standard
1
@davidjym some cars have the feature that turns off the engine when stopped at a traffic light. When you move the engine comes back on. I don't know if that is wear and tear turning off/on
1
Dislike: Plastic door handles inside and not as big storage space as the Civic. Small door storage and I don't know why Toyota doesn't put a space on back on the driver's seat and only the passenger's seat
1
stop it with Apple. What about Android Auto?
1
It wastes gas letting your car idle and more wear and tear for your engine. Besides, your car was not designed to idle for a long period of time. They are designed to be moving
1
Chrysler has long suffered from poor build quality and poor reliability. They are the worst of the big 3 American automakers
1
Toyota refreshed it for 2017 and added the Safety Sense features
1
MegaTabetha on my car you program how long the lights stay on before going off
1
didn't know that was possible
1
On the Toyota Corolla with the Smart Key/push to start, it won't lock the door with the key fob inside. It reminds you that the key fob is still in the car. It's equipped with an engine immobilizer. Therefore it is impossible to leave the key fob in the car
1
Chrysler 300 was cancelled earlier this year
1
AGAINST: Still no Android Auto that everyone else has and Entunes Audio isn't the best multimedia system
1
This is why they say don't smoke when pumping gas
1
Unlike GM & Ford, Toyota is not jumping on the electric wagon. They see that not everyone is buying an electric vehicle
1
Most often when the frame is damaged, the car is declared totaled. An example you can't fix is a rust hole in the underbody of the car
1
Next year would be the 100th birthday of Chrysler Corporation
1
This XSE doesn't have the Etunes Premium with Navigation. You have the Etunes Plus which you need to download the Scout GPS app. Also, you need to turn bluetooth on to connect your phone
1
Previously Honda Sensing was not standard on all trim levels, so it's good they made it standard. Toyota's safety sense has been standard on all trims on the Corolla
1
Since modern cars have many electronics, jump-starting your battery incorrectly could damage them
1
Great tips. If your car has an electrical problem that could also drain the battery. Today's cars are much more complicated with computers and electronics.
1
@Niafunn The Japanese Automakers Toyota and Honda hade made good build quality a priority whereas the American automakers do not as they focus on making higher profits and reducing costs
1
It was more stylish then previous generation Toyota Corolla (2014-2019), but now the redesigned 2020 Corolla is more stylish then the Civic. The Civic got a mild refresh for 2019 and is due for a redesign in 2021.
1
No, they are showing the 2019 Corolla Hatchback that is arriving this summer that has an update Etunes system and Apple Car Play but not Android Auto
1
Mazda 2 has added Android Auto, whereas Toyota still has not put Android Auto in its own Corolla sedan. Unfortunately, Toyota is not offering an upgrade to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay like Mazda did for 2014-2018 models
1
I want Android Auto not Apple. The new 2019 Corolla hatch has Apple Car Play. This XSE doesn't have the Etunes Premium with Navigation. You have the Etunes Plus which you need to download the Scout GPS app.
1
Manual is an option on only the SE
1
When shopping used cars look for signs of flood damage. You don't want to buy a flood-damaged car because it will have mechanical problems and is unsafe. Car Washers can make the car look like new, but may not be able to hide all the flood damage areas
