  2. J Bruce Ismay decided to reduce the number of lifeboats saying it made the deck look to cluttered and that they would not be needed as Titanic was thought to be unsinkable. The British Board of Trade lifeboat was outdated as it measured the number of lifeboats by the gross tonnage not the number of passengers on board. Also, it was thought that lifeboats could transport people from a distressed ship to a nearby rescue ship
