They're confused because Andrew Yang seems to say different things depending on the type of show he goes on. In addition to how he flip flops on Medicare for All and seems to say different things on what programs will be cut or removed under his freedom dividend.

Oh I see, so if everyone in the country receives $1,000 a month and all the people on disabilities, SSI, veterans, etc. are the only ones who receive nothing because they don't "opt-in", then it's their own faults. Ahhh, I see. Meanwhile, inflation will go up all around them from the effects of everyone receiving $1,000 a month and they will essentially LOSE money because of Yang's plan. You're either ignorant to this fact or your morally ignorant to it and just don't care about the people in this country who need the most help.

@xaqbennett Either you're not getting it or you're just morally ignorant to the repercussions of giving nothing to the people in our society who need it most. People on SSI and on disabilities would get virtually nothing from Yang's plan. Does that mean nothing to you?

@himynameisrev The college drop out rate is very high because college is so expensive. More people would go back to school or stay in school if college was either free at the point of service or if their loan debt was forgiven so they could explore more options in education.

@himynameisrev Also Bernie's platform has already been done in numerous countries in Europe, whereas Yang's has virtually never been done, especially with a country with the one of the worst levels of wealth inequality in the world. You're projecting with saying "Bernie's policies won't affect society at large". Yeah, the same way FDR's policies never helped anyone and the same way Sweden and Norway are apocalyptic wastelands for giving their citizens free public college. Everything you said is bullshit dude.

@himynameisrev And Yang's ONE policy that he uses as a cure-all for all of societies problems is a fundamental misunderstanding of America's problem of wealth and class inequality. Literally no one can live off $1,000 a month in this economy. There are people living on affordable housing (assisted by the gov't) who have to pay $1,000 per month just in rent alone. Tell me, if Yang claims that his plan is in response to automation which will put a huge portion of the workforce out of their jobs, then how the fuck is living off Yang bucks going to help any of these people in the future if he doesn't even give them enough to live in society? Perhaps the solution is NOT to just let automation put everyone out of work and then deal with the consequences using Yang bucks, but INSTEAD to change the embedded system, work regulations, raise corporate taxes and marginal tax rates, end trade deals, end corporate welfare, strengthen union laws, and more SO THAT we have a system where we have Democracy in the workplace and so automation actually leads to benefits for ALL workers instead of only helping the very few owners of production. SO THAT when production is automated all the workers KEEP their jobs, KEEP their salaries, and their work days are Halved as a result. As I said, Yang's UBI is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem and the SOLUTION for wealth inequality and globalization. It's not even a prevention, it's just a way to deal with the fallout and put a thin band-aid on the problem.

Uh I'm pretty sure a corporate tax would do that far more directly and efficiently than a VAT especially when you close tax loop holes and stop giving gigantic gov't benefits to these companies just for existing. What would be best is if you created a more progressive tax bracket system for corporate taxes.

Somebody needs to ask Yang about his foreign policy. I listened to his Q&A of all the 2020 candidates the other day and was really worried by some of his answers.

Great idea, that way they can ask him about his foreign policy, something I've literally never heard him talk about. Not to mention how he wants deregulation and to sunset all current regulations.

@00rq99 Also go back to the 1950s, there was a time when the corporate tax was much higher and we had a top marginal tax rate of 91%. It didn't mean the ultra wealthy and corporations paid these amounts, but it meant they at least got taxed at an average of 40%, much higher than the 0% now. When you say a "VAT is the only way", it's laughably inaccurate.

@meganandrickys You're missing the point entirely, it doesn't matter if Jeff Bezos and the 1% receive the same benefit, but it should at the VERY LEAST be the SAME benefit that the poorest people in society receive. How the hell are you not seeing that's the point I'm making?

@dethroj3thro368 I've made my issue with Yang's UBI crystal clear (though I have much deeper issues with UBI in general). Firstly, I'd like to point out that inflation is much more complex than only occurring when "printing more money". It occurs in multiple ways. One of the most common ways is "Rapid wage increases or rising raw material prices are common causes of cost-push inflation." Rapid income increases is something that can be EASILY caused by everyone in the entire country (except for the disabled and veterans apparently) receiving $1,000 more a month suddenly on a massive scale. You would have to be painfully ignorant to not even acknowledge that inflation is a potential result from this massive economic shift Yang is proposing. I don't think I need to retype my "issue" with Yang's UBI and how it does nothing for the people in the country that need the most help, you just seem to be ignoring my point altogether and not actually thinking about it in any pronounced way. I have absolutely no problem with Jeff Bezos and the 1% receiving Yang bucks, the ISSUE is that they're receiving ALL the benefits while the people on the bottom receive NOTHING from it if they're already receiving money for being disabled or from veterans affairs. This should be a concern for any true progressive, not just casually dismissing it as "they're already receiving benefits" as if they're already totally fine living off the bare minimum to survive because they literally can't work.
