Bernie's brother is a former Spokesman of the Green Party in England. It's not surprising he's nearly as invested in Britain's politics as he is in his own country. Bernie seemed to be hoping for the success of Labour quite a bit, back before they began sabotaging themselves that is.

@SD789 It all depends on what happens to his movement & progressivism in the United States. Could be that 4 years from now a younger Bernie-esque politician wins the Dem nomination and becomes a revolutionary president. In that case, Bernie will be viewed as the godfather and beginning of that transformative time in US politics. Either way, I think Bernie has planted more than a few seeds for future progress in the US and among the youngest generations, who will wield incredible power in just another decade or two.

@SD789 Bernie Sanders literally almost won the Dem nomination (twice). He scared the party so bad, they all had to come together at the last moment and pull out every last stop they could. You're vastly underestimating both him and a future pro-worker candidate that adopts his policies. Bernie-style progressives have already won all over the country on the federal level, so he's already accomplished more than Eugene V. Debs according to your own description.

The internet has changed quite a bit for the most current generations. I wouldn't be surprised if Millennials and Zoomers continue breaking out of age-old trends

@oliviayoung8040 Yeah, I'm so sick of Americans and the US system always revolving around money. Even if you try to live your life around something more, that feeling of looming financial insecurity and the stress the system places on you that you need to be constantly amassing more money and wealth or else you're not living your life "correctly" is so gross. There's just a non-stop endless strive for the top in America and it's likely the reason so many people are unhappy.

@raykirkham5357 That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. He was literally the only person to back Medicare for All in the 17+ field of Democratic candidates in 2020. Your brain is broken if you think he's "abandoned" Single Payer healthcare, after championing it for nearly 4 decades in Congress, just cause he endorsed Biden over Trump (which is usually the argument you'll get from these brain broken lefties, many of whom have transitioned to the anti-Left anti-vax alt right since the 2020 election funny enough).

@practicaliching2311 You're just completely omitting every recession and instance of corporate robbery against consumers between 1980 and 2024 and just blanketly assuming corporations would not take any or all advantage of seniors and their full control over their savings - as if people's savings in banks were not already gambled with to an extreme level during the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis and resulting market crash. You would have to be criminally gullible to believe corporations would have the best interests of seniors & their social security funds.

@Pan_Z Bernie Sanders may label himself a Democratic Socialist (which is more akin to Libertarian Socialism), but his policy platform emulates Social Democracy, which is a mixed system with state-administrative socialist policies (like Social Security, Medicare, public schools/highway construction, universal healthcare, etc) but still utilizes a free market in numerous industries such as consumer goods, vehicles, regulated housing, etc. This is why he constantly holds up the Scandinavian and Western European countries as his ideal system for what he wants America to look like - it's basically what most of those countries already implement, and to far greater success than America's current uber-Capitalist kleptocracy. Expanding Social Security and Medicare is in the same ballpark and these are things both Biden AND Trump talk about (expanding socialist policies on the state level for the improved financial well-being of seniors).

@kenwhite6449 Unfortunately, they'll do it even worse this time if Biden actually runs again. Bernie knows this and the fact that he's going hard against Capitalism and America's broken economic system is probably a sign he's not planning on running anymore.
