Jesus, stop with the hacky partisan garbage. Trump's the one who signed a treaty with the Tailban to begin with, so this is on both presidents if that's how you want to act. The reality is that it was always an inevitable conclusion no matter which president decided to pull the plug after 20 years though. You see how fast Kabul fell? Trump wasn't gonna do shit to stop that and hell it might have been even more chaotic with him involved making it look like a real shit show instead of largely peaceful takeover. The US spent 20 years training 300,000 Afghan soldiers and there are only 70,000 Taliban. You're an idiot if you don't see the Afghani forces never had the will to fight to begin with. Afghanistan was always going to fall to the Taliban. The US trained 300,000 Afghani troops for 20 years and they all just decided to give up the moment the US withdrew. It was an inevitable conclusion no matter which president finally decided to pull the plug on this monumental failure of a war/occupation (worse than Vietnam).

No amount of "training" or Trillions of tax payers dollars was ever going to change that and no amount of "treaties" was ever going to stop the Taliban who already owned the majority of Afghanistan's lands in the first place. You had 300,000 trained (for 20 years) Afghan soldiers against 75,000 Taliban, and there was almost no shots fired to take Kabul. Even Afghan's opposing US backed forces refused to fight to keep the US backed authority in power. It has been a lost cause since almost day 1, & the only way to keep the Taliban at bay was to just keep thousands of US troops there forever, an unacceptable answer.

Also, Trump released the Taliban's leader, whose most likely going to become president/ruler now so saying he's not to blame at all is ridiculous; he set a withdraw date for May 1st and if you think any "conditions" could've stopped this, you're a fool. The US has been in an unwinnable guerilla war for 20 years and the Taliban already hold the majority of Afghan's lands. Not to mention the US spent 20 years training 300,000 Afghan soldiers and 75,000 Taliban just took Kabul with barely even a single shot fired. You don't get it, any withdraw, from Trump, Biden or Obama was going to result with this, which is exactly why Obama went back on his campaign promise to pull out of Afghanistan and stayed in for another 10 years.

@theUnknownRose I think there are numerous factors regarding Afghan forces, but the biggest is that they just didn't have the will to fight & especially to fight the Taliban, many likely joined the Taliban's side since it's been a guerilla army fighting foreign "invaders" since the days when Russia were the ones in control of the Afghan gov't. Aside from that, an unofficial rumor I've heard is that the '300,000' trained Afghan forces is only that large on paper due to US contractors and corruption in the Military Industrial Complex allowing private special interests and contractors to squeeze money out of the whole system we have set up without actually putting in the work. Basically people are questioning whether the whole 'training of Afghan forces' was just one big cash grab for US companies and contractors, & based on the results it's hard to argue if that didn't have a hand in it at least a little.

That alone should've been an embarrassment and forced us to withdraw, but the MIC just largely ignored it & business continued as usual because the whole thing was all really only ever about the money & the jacking of natural resources anyways.

This was always an inevitable conclusion, it's the reason why Trump, TRUMP, was meeting with the Taliban when he was figuring out how to withdraw. The Taliban are a guerilla army with National ambitions whose sole purpose is to take over a foreign-backed Afghanistan (it has been since the Russians were the ones in control of the gov't). You're thinking of Al Qaeda or even ISIS, both of which are all but extinct and also operate out of completely different parts of the region. There are more "terrorists" within our "ally country" Saudi Arabia than there are in Afghanistan.

Getting out of Afghanistan was the only sane decision. The country was a lost cause even IF it was your prerogative to try to "spread freedom" & make sure Afghan forces were in control of the whole nation & its oil. The only thing I want to see from Biden is an unwillingness to send troops and resources back into the country (effectively prolonging the 20 year conflict) - and on that note he's surprisingly standing strong & not taking shit from the media or Trump's own flip flopping opportunism. This is an issue where the mainstream media will attack Biden because those companies have deep ties to the Military Industrial Complex, & you can see it with everyone from CNN to Fox News telling Biden to send troops back to Afghanistan, it's disgusting considering the 20 year war was just ended & long overdue at that. I actually care about this issue, whereas Trump & his good little supporters are just using it as an excuse to score political points on Biden in a tense foreign conflict while also flip flopping on the actual issue of withdrawal whether you want to admit it or not. If you care about withdrawing the troops & put that above all else, then fucking act like it, because any slight amount of scrutiny or pressure could have US troops & tax dollars right back in that never-ending war.

@zealot00 It's honestly worse than Vietnam in many ways. At least Ford eventually pulled the plug on Vietnam and didn't let it go on for 20 years like Afghanistan or Iraq. I should note that the same "foreign scandal" happened regarding Ford with the Fall of Saigon similar to the fall of Kabul, but after a month, Ford's approval actually shot UP. The American people don't want war & they'd rather pull out even if it leads to some Middle East country (predictably) in turmoil. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

Aside from that, we drop on average 8,000 bombs in Afghanistan per year, killing countless people who then have family members that join the Taliban or even terrorist groups like ISIS besetting more violence and instability. All the while those 8,000 bombs cost the US Trillions of dollars cumulatively along with all other costs for holding occupation in a country where we waste time, money and resources & which we've had thousands of US soldiers die in for the past 20 years even if there are moments of cease fire or only injuries (of which there have been TENS of Thousands of US soldiers being seriously injured or maimed). Additionally, you're clueless if you think having a US military base in an allied country is somehow the same, or accruing the same price tag as sending 5,000-20,000 US troops (the number varies) to a country in open guerilla warfare.
