"It doesn't matter". - Brooke Thomas No, it does matter. Anyone with a brain knows that Tyson is naturally excited about physics and his line of work, you can see it literally every time he gets on TV. Yes, it does matter if he was actually interested in the scientific angle of it or he was lifting up the shoulder sleeve of a dress to look at her sexy shoulder. You fucking kidding me Brooke Thomas?

Yeah I agree. Discussing and claiming a "handshake" and raising someones sleeve to look at their tattoo as if they're 'sexual assault' cases is only insulting to real sexual assault victims and damaging to future credibility in general for women who have been in traumatic situations.

I just lost so much respect for John Iadarola and the other woman here. Seems like Cenk is the only one who has any brains at TYT when it comes to using critical analysis on these "allegations" seeing how Cenk was the only one who was saying "Al Franken shouldn't have resigned" and I doubt he would be breathing life into these bullshit allegations. These types of "sexual misconduct allegations" just work to delegitimize actual rape allegations where people get held down against their will and have traumatizing shit happen. Someone doing an "intimate handshake" with you because it's based off a specific culture is NOT sexual misconduct, are you fucking kidding me?

It's frustrating that these two hosts still did not learn their lesson after Al Franken. I mean, Franken had an allegation where a woman literally said he "grabbed her waist" when posing for a picture. Just like the allegations made against Aziz Ansari, these massively questionable allegations will only hurt actual victims of actual sexual assault. Conflating these allegations of a "handshake" and "lifting the shoulder sleeve of a dress" to serious ones of attempted rape or aggravated assault (even slightly conflating them) is only going to make it harder for the Christine Blassey Fords of the world. I just lost a lot of respect for John who went overboard with this, but just lost ALL respect for this other woman who literally said "it doesn't matter what his intentions were".... seriously?

@kristovis9668 No, only when it sounds credible and makes sense. When you hear about "3 sexual assault allegations" and 2 end up being a "handshake" and "touching an arm tattoo", then you already have room to be highly suspicious. Do you know what 'common sense' means?

The last one should be investigated (all serious allegations should), but it too sounds kinda sketchy. They were apparently dating around that time period and were ex-lovers, which makes things way more complicated because old relationships usually have baggage. Plus you gotta take into account the source of these allegation, which came from a Christian fundamentalist newspaper. Tyson is one of the most popular scientists in the world who constantly educates people on The Big Bang, Evolution, and Climate Change. The other two allegations (which are not even sexual harassment) were at least from credible individuals in the movie and science industries, but the last woman with the serious allegation has constantly been attacking Tyson for being a "brainwashed puppet of the science community" and has been attacking the concept of "science" on her Twitter page, which does not seem very stable to me.

The sexual assault allegation you referenced at the end was with an ex-girlfriend who seems to have mental issues just from a quick look at her Twitter page. Yes, it's true that the majority of sexual assault allegations are true, but when its allegations between partners in an ongoing sexual relationship or exes, I'd say that the likelihood of skewed allegations raises considerably and the balance of truth is closer to being equal since a lot of baggage can come from past relationships. Also, the first 2 you mentioned were not even sexual assault.
3
Yah you could tell John wanted to disagree with her on several things but didn't want to come off as a "misogynist" to her so he kept just going along with all the dumb shit Brooke was saying. Cenk AND Ana wouldn't have put up with that shit, just watch their breakdown of when these type of allegations happened to Aziz Ansari. They were super nuanced and I remember they even titled it in a nuanced way like "Sexual assault allegations against Ansari, are the charges fair?". Brookes just comes off as screeching neofeminist in this video and doesn't give a shred of nuance or doubt even though two of the allegations are not even sexual harassment and the other is between an ex-lover who bashes Tyson all the time on Twitter and calls him a "brainwashed puppet for the science community".
3
You didn't even watch the video huh
2
@alexocasio-gomez5267 He admitted the first 2 allegations which were just silly accusations of making someone uncomfortable and awkward flirting. He denied the last allegation from the ex-girlfriend in the 80s, which is an old allegation to begin with. Did you even watch or read what the allegations were?
2
Date rape is still possible, but when you're talking about a situation between two people who used to date and regularly be intimate with each other, the odds that it's credible drop WAYYYY more. Men AND Women carry baggage in ex-relationships. If Christine Blassey Ford had been dating Brett Kavanaugh and were ex-lovers back in the 70s, that whole case and scandal would've been totally different and likely would've had a lot less support behind Ford.
2
The more accurate description is that it ultimately hurts real victims of sexual assault and rape. Conflating allegations of a "handshake" and "lifting the shoulder sleeve of a dress" to 'sexual assault' will only diminish the importance and weight that those real allegations hold.
1
Seems pretty fucking important, but these 2 hosts do not even mention it. Where is Cenk when you need him.
1
Why are you conflating America with this story?
1
Brooke Thomas seriously made a fool of herself here and John didn't do himself any favors by nodding along the whole time.
1
They were also previously dating, so that drastically lowers the possibility that she's 'unquestionably telling the truth' considering a lot of baggage comes with some past relationships, likely why they ended it to begin with. Not to mention, the first 2 allegations they referenced were not even close to sexual assault, so why even report on them? This whole thing sounds VERY questionable, just like Al Franken and Aziz Ansari, and I say that as someone who supported the expulsion of John Conyers and others on the Left who were found guilty of credible sexual assault allegations like the attorney general of New York.
1
Why are they even reporting on the first 2? Seems like a character assassination for the fact that you can now claim "3 allegations against Tyson", when in reality, it's just 1, and it's 1 that's from an ex-girlfriend who clearly has mental issues from a quick glance at her Twitter where she bashes Tyson as a "brainwashed puppet of the science community" in one of her posts and goes on to attack "Science" as a concept.
1
MrBleach401 yeah I agree they should investigate that last one (the first 2 are nonsense), but she also threw a ton of shade at him and bashed on the concept of "science" in her Twitter feed. They're also exes and used to have an intimate relationship so that really complicates things and makes it a lot more complex than just a basic he-said she-said thing because now it matters what their history is.
1
For instance, the first 2 "allegations" in this video are not sexual harassment.
1
Well the first 2 "allegations" are not even sexual assault and barely even sexual harassment considering a "handshake" and 'lifting a sleeve of a dress" are not ways to commit sexual assault in the slightest. Is hugging someone when they don't particularly want a hug a "sexual assault" now?
