Kyle you are wayyyy too kind towards the Yang Gang. These people attack Bernie more than any other candidate, ignore the left-wing criticisms against his version of UBI (and the other criticisms you make), and then always deflect to a fake debate about FJG vs UBI without any mention of labor laws, taxing corporations, reforming the tax code, or the fact that FJG is proposed as a part of the Green New Deal for tackling Climate Change.

@passyourielts It doesn't matter what their personal income is, it matters how bold their tax plans are. If they are in the top percentile, then how much are they willing to raise their own taxes? Based on yang's own platform, he's not willing to raise his taxes nearly at all, while Bernie is directly trying to raise his own taxes. Think about it. Yang's only tax increases come from taxing goods, a tax that partially affects citizens as well. We end up taxing goods, but the ultra wealthy still make out like bandits because there is no real tax reform aside from luxury goods.

@Huy-ew1ng I don't think Bernie and Trump were ever offering people straight cash, so no I don't think the logic favors you. Kyle's not calling it "buying votes", but he's making it clear he has massive disagreements with Yang. I still don't know how Yang supporters can justify people on disabilities and SSDI not receiving $1,000, but everyone whose ultra wealthy receive it no problem with no choice required.

@passyourielts Okay, he "says" that, but is it an actual plan he has? From what I've seen, VAT is the extent of his taxation, that's not good considering the massive wealth inequality going on in America.

@passyourielts Not impressed. Sorry. A carbon tax is the bare minimum when it comes to Climate Change, and he's talking about reducing emissions by maybe possibly up to 90% by the year 2050, that's way too late. And he has 2 sentences about a financial transaction tax, something Bernie Sanders has proposed in robust detail and created an entire plan around.

@Greendalewitch No it was Pete Buttigieg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm1fXmbWJ8s

@mickor When Bernie talks about his platform, he always talks about how he would actually use the bully pulpit and rally all over the country to push the party to vote on his policies, he has a realistic vision even after elected. I haven't seen Yang or anyone else talk about this whatsoever. Even IF yang won (which he won't), I don't ever see us getting UBI under a yang administration. More likely, he'll pass things like setting provisions on all regulations, because that's uniquely terrible enough for both corrupt parties to back.
1
@mickor Maybe that's true, but I just haven't ever seen him or anyone else talk about it like Bernie has, who specifically says he will go to states like West Virginia and rally in Democrats' states to either push them on his policy or replace them altogether. And I agree, I have no idea how much political capital Yang has or is capable of.

@eg14000 And yet people on disabilities and other programs will still receive nothing if they have to choose, meanwhile they'll feel the effects of his VAT tax since it's a partial tax on citizens in addition to any inflation caused from everyone having $1,000 aside from the people who need it the most.

@seaofgreens You're assuming that that is what a VAT would even be added to. Is there any proof that it wouldn't be added to jewelry and goods that middle or even lower class Americans buy for anniversaries or things they regularly buy. Goods that a Republican Senate or Congress could easily categorize as "luxury goods". You're putting an awful lot of faith into our current legislative branch, and this is assuming that "luxury goods" are initially even categorized by Yang as things over the expense of $40,000 or whatever you're claiming. I don't see any clause in Yang's freedom dividend that states this.
