This is a problem that I've actually dealt with first hand. I worked for a start up medical Marijuana company a few years ago that had $20,000 seized at one point even though the money was from an investor for the business and all the paper work for it was included when the seizure happened. The money couldn't be deposited in a bank because medical marijuana is still not legal federally so banks don't allow corporate bank accounts for it. The money had to be transported physically and when the driver was pulled over for old registration tags, the cops took the money and just assumed it was obtained illegally since there was one marijuana bud (a sample) in the car and even though the driver was a licensed grower, they took the money and we never saw it again.
