It still utterly confuses me why you have these "New Party" people so set on starting from nothing when you already have a starting point with the Green Party who've spent two decades simply getting 50 state voting rights.

Kyle's point wasn't that you shouldn't just simply be an advocate for rank-choice voting, but if your main goals are to have a successful Third Party, you should make it your top priority altogether that you push for relentlessly because your party is going to be completely ineffective until the voting system is reformed.

I'll never understand the "New Party" people because even in terms of taking the impossibly hard third party route, you're only making your lives exponentially even more difficult by doing it from scratch & ignoring the option to build on the Green Party.

Yeah, and what makes you think that would be any different even IF a 3rd party gained the same amount of Congress members. As Kyle said, a 3rd Party would still need to work with the party that closest resembles their own ideology, because coalitions are Required in politics if you want anything done. Of course progressive politicians (no matter what party they're in) are "at the mercy" of the number of politicians required to create a passing vote for their agenda or policies - this is how politics works, & it always seems like people like yourself blame the progressive politicians simply for the fact that they are completely outnumbered by both neoliberal corporatists or outright conservative nutjobs. A 3rd Party isn't going to change that dynamic until you have a political makeup that involves a majority of, at the very least, reasonable uncorrupted politicians that want to improve the lives of working Americans. You do not have that right now in American federal politics and a 3rd Party wouldn't change a damn thing, much less be successful in electing federal politicians in the first place. I have doubts that rank-choice voting would even disrupt the two-party system, but you 100% wouldn't have a shred of a chance without it at the minimum.

Yeah this recent move to start a "new party" just makes Yang look even more politically bipolar considering he bows to the establishment on things like Israel & now he's proclaiming he's going to try to sidestep the voting process of the establishment.

@bradtaylor77 The majority of people don't even understand the conflict one bit. The RIGHT thing to do however is to take a firm stand against war crimes and the killing of children, whether it's done by Israel or Hamas's factions in Palestine. These politicians can shake their fingers all day at Hamas launching rockets that get stopped by Israel's Iron Dome, but when Israel does revenge killings of children, suddenly it's "Israel has a right to kill children".

@bradtaylor77 Okay just ignore everything I said. I'll reiterate, most people don't understand the issue one bit or are confused by it. When you consider polling regarding the voters that do understand the issue, it's far more complicated than just "we support Israel & hate Palestine". For instance, the support for Palestinian statehood far exceeds the % of people that don't support it, yet this is an issue completely at odds with Israel's settlements and their restrictive rights against Palestinians treating them as second class citizens. Even the polling is contradictory because, like I said, people don't understand the issue. Not to mention, the sympathy for Palestinians rises every year and now it's more of a 50/50 issue today than ever before, especially after Israel murdered over a dozen children a few months ago in a bombing that was totally unnecessary. Also, your logic is disgusting and just plain wrong - "Let's do the immoral thing because it's more popular and the voters don't understand the issue well". If you said that for every issue, then "Medicare for All and UBI" wouldn't even be popular today, slavery wouldn't have been ended in the 19th century, & so many historically "immoral" & wrong positions wouldn't have been changed over time or even fought for.

Progressives can absolutely do more, but the harsh reality is that's far better than the alternative of doing nothing at all. Third parties are completely ineffective in the current system. The choice you're presenting is a false one.

@Distrunner5k Just because they should do more doesn't mean at all they don't support it. It's far far better having those people in Congress that will, at the very least, vote for left-wing policies when its presented to them. However, there are still numerous occasions where they have took the initiative on left-wing goals - a recent one that comes to mind being Cory Bush successfully getting the moratorium ban passed. Refusing to give them any tiny bit of credit at all isn't a fair assessment.
