Dude seriously acting like he democratized Twitter when the company went from being run by a large board of directors making decisions solely based on business finances & basic PR to unilateral decisions by a thin skinned billionaire who scours the platform all day to punish his critics.

The amount of money he had to have spent on desperately buying celebrities blue checkmarks likely took that number far into the negative. Such a genius businessman

@dustinsindledecker154 It's the possessed version of Elmo which just throws out racial slurs & sexual advances every time you tickle it

This is legit an actual theory that Elon stans have latched onto to continue arguing why Elon is a genius. It's like the last possible way to defend him nowadays

It's gonna get to the point where celebrities have to use their verified Instagram or TikTok accounts to tell their fans which Twitter account is actually theirs. What a dumpster fire

@15justt That's what Elon himself claims to try to save face that the system isn't just some elitist scam. Honestly I don't think it makes it much better and just makes Elon sound more pathetic.

That seems like a pretty flawed way to look at it no offense. In reality, these corporations will choose to profit off of advertisers whether people pay for subscriptions or not. They're addicted to money and are always going to maximize profits no matter what

@GrandpaBaner Netflix has cemented their brand from the beginning as a platform that doesn't use advertising. If they suddenly started, the bad PR would be far more financially damaging than any profits from advertisers. Youtube and others do not have the same brand and reputation as them, thus have no real commitment to axe advertising if they suddenly become financially stable from subscriptions alone. These companies will always do whatever is best for their brand and bottom line.

That ship has sailed. They're saying his (exploded) "Starship" will eventually be able to go to Mars, but from the looks of it, it's just seeming like more Vaporware - the thing hasn't even gone to the moon or left orbit yet and there's more talk about it being a pleasure cruise for rich tourists than any talk about it actually being used to go to Mars.

@patchwurk6652 Yeah no idea what I was banned for, but pretty sure it's cause I was directly commenting on neoliberal Democratic candidates and calling them corrupt goons. Also didn't help my timeline clearly showed me supporting Bernie 2020

@GrandpaBaner No I said that companies will always only care about their bottom. If maintaining favorable PR is deemed as more important than pursuing alternative sources of revenue such as in Netflix's case (cause they've literally built a brand on not having advertisements on their platform), then that will be factored into their business decisions, but it's still all about the money to these corporations - that's just Capitalism.

This guy is gonna be dead by the time SpaceX ever develops anything that can make it to Mars. He'll forever just be known as the thin skinned spoiled brat that destroyed Twitter in less than a year.

That shit would definitely sell big on pornhub. Might be his first money-making scheme that actually works.

For someone who despises Elmo, this story is like catnip for me

@GrandpaBaner My point is that these companies are never going to listen to you or any of their users just because you willingly give them more money (so they can hopefully 'be better'). These companies are inherently greedy, they're not going to 'hopefully give you' anything. You need to force them to do so either by a campaign to pressure them to change their shitty rules (directly effecting their public image) or by doing a boycott of their products or services (actually effecting their bottom line). My point is they're not giving you shit just cause you asked nicely or have some positive feelings about how these companies work - they don't care and it's all about their money and their brand.

@GrandpaBaner I see that you're presenting a false dichotomy as if these companies won't just choose both unless it's inherently represented in their brand to stay away from advertisements or if a public pressure campaign is run against them by a solid subscriber base. Netflix is completely reliant on their subscribers & real people paying them monthly fees, yet they still continue to announce horrible changes to the platform such as their recent announcement to crackdown on password sharing, making users only able to log on from a home IP and saying if they don't log on every 30 days they automatically get locked out of their accounts. Again, these companies only care about money and that goes triple for Twitter and Elon Musk whose desperately trying to pay back colossal interest rates he accumulated after stupidly overpaying for Twitter.
