He is right. Political nihilism is a poison pill that stands in the way of progress. Any time you have a strike at an auto warehouse, the moment the striking workers start to feel like its all pointless & they can't win is when they actually lose, even when there's still an avenue to win either in the short term & especially in the long term.

Minecart Uh huh. False assumptions along with false dichotomies. Amazin' I don't support violent direct action in 2021, call me crazy I guess. Not to mention, the near universal media propaganda that would just reverse your efforts against you, good intentions or not, & make you look like terrorists for inflicting violence aka exactly what happened during Trump's Capital Hill riots. A nonviolent general strike would be far more effective if it could actually be organized, but 'violent direct action' is not only counter-productive in this age of Twitter & constant news coverage, but it's also just simply immoral.

@PutXi_Whipped Nobody's saying it is. However, pushing for a $3.5 Trillion spending bill that taxes corporations, gives family tax credits, puts money towards Climate Change action, and expands Medicare is absolutely something within reach. Nihilism can go fuck itself if it means there's a chance the seniors in my family can save $7,000 on hearing aids they desperately need.

@KaiserMattTygore927 I never said it didn't. My point was about nihilism and how it effects people in general. I used striking workers as an example of how this can effect a long-term political uphill battle.

@inteallsviktigt I would tell Russians the same thing. You can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. Apply political pressure anywhere you can. The fact that we don't get murdered in America for applying too much political pressure should be even more a reason to do it here. Fun fact though: activists working outside the Russian government also get murdered, so your point is foolish.

@inteallsviktigt Any serious political analyst will tell you that mass movements in America only succeeded when they had both an outside movement of people pushing for change coupled with inside political forces pushing to ensure the demands of the people were heard, sometimes it's even a president empathetic to the cause. MY POSITION is that both of these forces are important or necessary because historically that has been the fact of the matter - you're the one trying to claim electoral politics means absolutely nothing and is pointless when that's simply not the case from a historical perspective, nor from a common sense perspective. I'd hate to state the obvious, but if every single person with your same or similar political ideology were to never vote again or never participate in any level of politics again, you would likely see a political shift of the federal/state/local government to the opposite side of the spectrum that you're on, where the government would become even more pro-corporate, more anti-worker, & you're a fool if you think the state of the country and politics can't get any worse than it is now ---- A more specific example then ---- Imagine if every single Marijuana advocate, supporter or otherwise stopped voting entirely, stopped doing activism to push others to vote for pro-Marijuana legislation, all you would have left are the anti-Marijuana voters and then soon enough you would lose all states rights and recreational/medical laws allowing Marijuana to be produced & sold in any of the 36 states that allow Marijuana to be sold in some capacity. I imagine you DON'T agree with Marijuana becoming illegal and a felony in all 50 states again do you? Oh wait, that's right, "voting in America is the equivalent of eating McDonalds". You are straight foolish.

That's basically the flow of your logic and its inevitable outcome, otherwise I assume you're just hoping for a fucking miracle to come along and change everything overnight.

@dawgson711 I'm saying the bill is not an impossible out-of-reach goal as being insinuated. If we would've had just 2 Senate elections go an alternative way in the last election cycle, then we very well could've had that bill pass through reconciliation (assuming a compromise is still not agreed). A few months ago, the same people would've said an actual full withdraw from Afghanistan would've been impossible, but here we are withdrawn from Afghanistan.

Two things can be immoral at the same time, & I literally just posed a nonviolent alternative - I believe I said a general strike, without your chaotic clusterfuck rioting bullshit that you somehow miraculously believe wouldn't be turned against you by the entire media apparatus. Last time I checked, the rioting & vandalism last summer didn't do a goddamn thing but give the media an excuse to call the entire BLM movement 'violent' and 'dangerous', when only a few dumbasses were the ones causing problems and violent situations. It reflected badly on the whole movement, so it's amazing you think this is your brilliant ace in the hole. Meanwhile, nonviolent teacher strikes across the country actually succeeded in achieving tangible political wins. Not to mention violence just breeds more violence, but you clearly don't care about the morality of the issue one bit or else you wouldn't be saying such irresponsible garbage in the first place.
