@CathyRatty Yang is just as protective of the establishment as Warren. They're both inadequate when it comes down to challenging corporate power.

Does nobody think it's weird that people really don't act like this and have these dramatic moments until they end up running for president. Honestly, it's a calculation, even if his emotions are partially genuine.

@HRae87 Same. It for some reason reminds me of how the MSM constantly fawned over Obama because he would always cry over gun violence. We don't need sadness and thoughts and prayers, we need frustration, anger and political courage to stand up to big moneyed interests.

@daltonbedore8396 You don't need "empathy" to solve the issue of gun violence. It clearly never worked for Obama. What you need is logic and political courage to fight against money in politics and the gun manufacturers.

@serpent77 "Evolution" gives the impression that it's a place where Bernie would eventually go with his policies, however, Yang's policies are wildly different from Bernie's, and in the case of regulations or taxes, I don't know how you can even compare the two, Bernie is on a whole other level. Bernie wants to go for the jugular of the elite and 1% and take on corporate power, while Yang's ideas are mostly protective of the establishment and elite. The logical conclusion of Bernie's policies is far closer to a place where we have widespread worker-owned cooperatives and a corporate structure that encapsulates a Democracy between workers, not a feudal system where a few people at the top of a company own the overwhelming amount of power and wealth. If you don't understand this about Bernie and his brand of Democratic Socialism, then you have no business claiming Yang's policies are an "evolution" to Bernie's.

I was trained to use a gun at a young age, and looking back at it, there could've been a ton of moments when things went wrong. I was too irresponsible and carefree to understand that any mistake could've ended in terrible tragedy. It honestly scares me thinking about what would've happened if I had accidentally shot one of my siblings or friends. Kid's aren't allowed to drive cars until their 16-17 in most states, that's probably the bare minimum we should do for limiting young ages to hold guns.

@democratpoopcity3347 Yes, something that conveniently leaves every single gun in every single home. More background checks, and mandatory gun safety courses upon sale are also a solution (a much much cheaper one than fingerprint scanners on 3.5 million guns that could cost up to half a Trillion $), but I don't see Yang proposing that because it would turn off his base. Background checks and safety courses would also result in less gun violence overall, while fingerprint scanners would likely just embolden people to buy more guns.

Yeah, the handout that's entirely based off Milton Friedman and Charles Murray's UBI, one a Libertarian and one a Republican. You have no idea what you're talking about. Bernie's policies go directly for the jugular of the 1%, while Yang's does not even scratch the surface of wealth inequality.

@Menace__ Yang also similarly waffles on Medicare for All, he's flipped between a public option and Med4All multiple times now ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFBO98fxr-I&feature=youtu.be&t=255 ), and as I told Sean Sterling, Yang's ideas about less regulation, mild taxes on luxury goods, and a UBI bill for everyone (except people on disabilities and social programs), a policy that's been around since the 1950s since the days of Milton Friedman, are not "evolutions" on modern-day progressivism, that's just fucking insulting.

@Jackass_Gamer Exactly my point. You can show emotion and still be dead wrong on the policy. Don't let emotions and empathy dictate who we follow, that's how we wound up with 8 years of stagnation under Obama.

@KnightofAntiquity I don't doubt that Obama actually cared about the gun violence epidemic (same with Yang here) and had real emotions over it, however, Obama's legacy is a failed one in every sense. His real efforts to try to do something about gun violence was undercut by his own failure to hold onto seats in Congress and all over the country under his leadership. He didn't do anything when he had a supermajority, and then when Sandyhook happened and he finally tried to do something, he couldn't due to his own negligence as a leader and organizer. Just like with Hillary losing the 2016 election, Obama has no one to blame but himself for his own failures as president.

@democratpoopcity3347 No I'm saying mandatory gun safety courses would be just as effective in mitigating children getting their hands on guns, while being far less costly than free of choice biometric scanner upgrades. In addition, safety courses would also lessen the amount of gun sales and the amount in circulation and would ensure far less accidents when people are actually using their guns. It could also be useful for instructors spotting potential mass shooters and those that are mentally unhinged. Also, I have no idea what biometric scanners poll at, but mandatory safety courses poll very well even among Republicans. The idea that safety courses are a radical idea is absolutely ridiculous. The most responsible gun owners out there have already taken safety courses at some point such as when they were children. The only reason people propose something like biometric scanners over safety courses is because it wouldn't lead to less guns in circulation, but potentially even more guns.

@Willowtree Blog Also let's not forget that Yang wants to put a sunset provision on ALL regulation, his views on regulation are extremely terrible in a time of massive class inequality and a time when many corporations pay an effective tax rate of $0. He's also constantly waffled on Medicare for All in a time when 30,000 to 40,000 people die every year from lack of healthcare. I fail to see in any way how he's "more left than Bernie" unless you're going from the uninformed default assumption that UBI is somehow the leftiest you can get (it's Not even close). Richard Wolff is a Professor of Economics and a literal Marxist and he is massively against Yang's UBI, so I think you're honestly confused about the left-right spectrum and where Yang's UBI falls on that.

@serpent77 It's funny because, in reality, Yang's ideas are most accurately an evolution from Milton Friedman and Charles Murray, one a Libertarian and one a conservative. Yang's UBI is most closely aligned with their version of UBI, except even Friedman and Murray paid more out than Yang ($13,000 a year), but it's most similar in the way that Friedman and Murray planned to phase out portions of social programs just the way Yang's UBI does in a low-key manner. UBI is not some new idea that's an "evolution" to modern-day progressivism, it's been a concept for literal decades now, and you're just insulting progressives when you say uninformed shit like that. That our ideas are somehow so behind the times that a Libertarian and conservative from the '50s and '60s claim to be an "evolution" to common sense things like paying people a living wage, or more complexly canceling student debt (a modern-day problem in the year 2019) by putting a tax on Wall Street speculation. You just sound like you're pulling your arguments out of your ass to praise your candidate, your team, while trying to take progressives down a peg.
