I think we should stick by the Constitution and make sure it's a "Right" for everyone to own and carry a musket, aside from that any gun that can fire multiple rounds in more than 10 seconds apart, should be heavily regulated. Don't think the fore-fathers ever thought we'd have pistols that could unload 30 rounds in less than 3 seconds, much less a bump stock upgraded automatic assault rifle.

Yeah, but just changing the laws to make the guns illegal to own on its own will eventually lead to confiscation over time as law enforcement searches cars or homes and finds what would then be considered illegal firearms. Over a 10 year period, you would have countless guns removed just through normal police procedure and firearms that become broken or need replaced and are unable to be replaced due to their sale being banned for those particular guns. Also, lots of people would eventually sell their guns optionally through the buyback when they actually need the money, especially if they're being bought back for their original asset value and not the used market value. Why would people sell their guns (illegally) for a lower price when they can get a higher payout for them from the gov't.

  3.  @mckenzie.latham91  Most people don't have black market connections is the point. Also, is there literally no accounts of Canadian police confiscating illegal firearms? That type of procedure happens constantly in the United States and we have way more relaxed restrictions on gun laws.

  4. All people need to protect themselves is a revolver or even a shotgun. I can see how 30-round handguns might still be an issue when all you need to defend against a home intruder is usually 1 or 2 buckshot. Even if we banned AR-15s, you can still unload 30 rounds from a lot of handguns in less than 3 seconds (10 rds/sec) and then another second or 2 to load in a new clip. 19 kids in an elementary school could still be killed quickly enough before the cops finally barge in an hour later. A lot harder to do so when the shooter needs to reload each round manually after every 6 rounds in a six shooter.
