  1. Well let's see Hugo Chavez turned it into the most prosperous nation in South America up until his death, where after Maduro took over and essentially became a dictator. Not to mention all the economic wars and embargos waging on Venezuela from the outside, which is why there is a food shortage along with Maduro's mismanagement of the situation, this is still far far different than anything close to Democratic Socialism or Social Democracy, which is what US politicians want to implement for more social policy to ensure everyone has the bare minimum and no one is too poor to live in the richest country in the world.

He doesn't mention Socialism because Maduro has transformed the country into a more authoritarian state and corrupted how a socialist economy is actually supposed to work by mismanaging the fuck out of the gold platter Hugo Chavez left him. Chavez turned Venezuela into the most prosperous country in South America and you can look at the stats to prove it, so if you're going to blame Maduro for his perverse socialist economy, you have to simultaneously give Chavez credit for his. When you have a country's success laid upon which dictator will be in power though, that's not a good example of any sort of pure form of economy (capitalist, socialist, communist) especially when you have every single Scandinavian country work more perfectly than any other country in the world and they don't have these types of authoritarian dictators.
