@petermj1098 So because the government was foolish, that means it's justified for entire cities of innocent men, women and children to die? Sounds rational

Don't know what the take is gonna be for this movie, but if it's about Oppenheimer, I would hope it's that the dropping of the atomic bombs were a crime against humanity. Mass murdering innocent civilians is wrong no matter if it's done by the losing or winning side of a war.

@AJ5 Normally yes, but if they want to respect Oppenheimer's legacy they're going to have to portray his harsh objection to the bomb ever being used & his horror of the reality of what they created at the Manhattan Project after their initial elation of being the first ones to split the atom. Christopher Nolan isn't exactly known as some hidden truth teller, but something tells me he won't just gloss over this important part of Oppenheimer's beliefs & his life.

@petermj1098 Again, the crimes of the Japanese Imperial gov't do not equate to justification to kill innocent citizens. The Allies also committed egregious atrocities & war crimes and that includes the US and Great Britain. Look up the Canicatti Massacre or the mass rape of civilians & German women by the Americans, British and French as the war on the European front was coming to a close. Kinda sounds a lot like the mass rapes that Japan perpetrated across Manchuria. The Soviets in particular encouraged war crimes & encouraged killing any civilians that were German. Now, do these atrocities mean that it's excusable for Germans to bomb Boston, it's excusable for Japan to bomb Pearl Harbor, or it's completely justified for the Axis powers to nuke Moscow off the face of the planet? Of course it doesn't, so why the hell would you argue for it on the side of the Allies when one of the most horrifying war crimes of the war was the dropping of the atomic bombs that killed countless in a heartbeat and led to mass radiation sickness for generations. It's unthinkable to me that people actually have this opinion and spout it as if it's common sense to them.
