@jaycourtel4478 Yeah I thought that was really interesting too. Season 2 is basically a reality check on the violence, war and slavery that we saw in Season 1. It works well because you can tell Thorfinn himself & all the Vikings around him are desensitized to it throughout. Just like how he has to come face to face with his sins, the viewer is meant to reinterpret the suffering and anguish seen first-hand in Viking society and the war and occupation of England.

It's a theme that we've seen before, but the way it's portrayed through Viking culture, a race of people who revere violence and war and how slavery is just something that can happen to you on one unlucky day when one Jarldom raids another is definitely a unique outlook on the theme. And then there's a character like Thorfinn who just completely rejects Viking traditions and their lifestyle, not out of converting to Christianity or finding God but because of a secular sense of morality and empathy towards the people he himself had victimized in his early life. The whole concept works beautifully and is somehow something new and compelling.

Vinland Saga S2 was so damn beautiful I can't believe people dropped it. Imo it far exceeded Season 1 and really set a new bar for story and character-driven anime.

@mikalcoronado914 Vinland Saga makes Naruto look like Boruto s1

The scene where Thorfinn confronts Askeladd again in his vision of Valhalla was so damn emotional - there were so many conflicting feelings at play. Thorfinn's transformation and remaking himself as someone who protects the victimized and powerless is really one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen in anime.

It made me question humanity in general. The way slavery is explored in this show & the different viewpoints it examines is really new territory for me personally. In Viking society, you could become a slave by just having one unlucky day and the neighboring village kills and enslaves the people of your village. You're literally no different from one another, even the same race, nationality and skin color, but then suddenly you're someone else's property because the person with power says so. You live and die at their whim simply because humans as a species are savage creatures capable of monstrous things that we convince ourselves is normal & even teach our kids to do the same. It never even occurred to me before just how perfect Viking society is to explore the depths of brutality that humans have the potential to inflict on one another. Then the way Thorfinn challenges these barbaric social norms and, for instance, refuses to throw a punch, weathering 100 blows, because it would contradict the entire point of a peace negotiation - The show really is masterfully written.

@exnecross3141 Well reviewed does not equate to popularity. Simply going on their subreddit or seeing the view counts on Vinland Saga vids shows you how lesser watched it is compared to shows like Demon Slayer, My Hero or One Piece. Even trash like Rising of Shield Hero outpaces it in views.

@exnecross3141 Vinland Saga is a far better series than nearly all the shows that obtain higher viewings than it. This is why it's underrated. It doesn't get the popularity that it deserves by that same metric and this is seen when you compare it to other popular shows, some being basically trash like Shield Hero.
