I don't know why you're all obsessed with his semantics on Islam. His stances on interventionism and torture are what I absolutely can't stand about Sam Harris. He tries to rationalize torture based on anecdotal "evidence" when even the CIA has admitted that it does Not work along with war-mongers like John McCain who was tortured himself.

It seems like half the comments on here are just blanket outrage that Pakman included Sam Harris in the IDW. To those people, explain this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWCl32j8jM

He's not as bad as the others, but his views on interventionism and torture basically put him in that same mixed bag. Just because Jordan Peterson has good qualities associated with his self-help books does not make him 'okay' by any means. I've heard enough from Harris to know he is no ally of progressives.

Dude, he literally classifies himself as a part of the Intellectual Dark Web. Stop being outraged over something you clearly haven't done any research on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWCl32j8jM

+Dietmar Steinhaus - Yeah honestly I had originally written out like 4 big paragraphs outlining why I thought so for my last post, but ultimately didn't want to make it too much of a big deal. I definitely don't think Sam Harris belongs with the frauds in the IDW (even though that's his choice to classify himself with them), but I do feel like people constantly miss the real problem with his arguments, while many of his critics don't do a great job of making their case or just flat out incorrectly address the real issue. It's the implications of the things he argues for (torture, interventionism) and the fact that many of these arguments ARE actually convincing even though they're framed in a certain way to do so. One of the most frustrating things I see from him is his use of anecdotal evidence. It's one thing to use an anecdote to drive a point home, but when your entire argument is just a hypothetical thought experiment that hinges on an anomalous real life scenario, it doesn't really say much especially compared to using statistical analysis. Just one of the ways I feel like he frames his arguments in a misleading way.

+MasterofOssus - Lol, yeah you pretty much just debunked half the comments here with that one link.

He also has favorable views towards torture and interventionism. Is that also a "ridiculous criticism"?

Yeah, explain why he's NOT apart of the IDW? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWCl32j8jM

His stances on the Iraq War, interventionism and torture are all pretty fucking terrible.

+Dietmar Steinhaus - I'm not claiming to have heard all of Harris' arguments, but from the things I've seen of him, his problem isn't the logic of some of his statements, it's the way he frames them and how he doesn't really ever consider the implications of some of things he says.
