It's so ridiculous when Lavrov talks about the UN Charter and the sovereignty of other UN countries. Since 2014, the Russian Federation has violated UN international law and the international UN treaties of 1991, 1994 and 1997 by invading and annexing territories of Ukraine. That Lavrov, the sovereign country of Ukraine as "our Ukraine" called, clearly proves who the aggressor is and what his goal is, and it also makes it clear that he is not interested in peace and does not respect the borders of other UN states!! In 3 UN resolutions, 141 UN states have called on the Russian Federation to stop aggression against the sovereign country of Ukraine and to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine and to withdraw the army immediately since the Russian Federation has attacked Ukraine. Why doesn't he talk about who's undermining what, because nobody's undermining what!!! Nobody will believe Lavrov's will for peace if everyone in Russia who is opposed to the war is imprisoned. Why is Russia still a member of the UN? The UN treaties of 1991 and 1994 on Ukraine's independence and on the return of nuclear weapons to Russia. (1997 trilateral agreement on Ukraine's independent decision to join NATO). If war and murder is the reason for invading Ukrainian territory, then you are a warrior who murders and steals and an outlaw who does not recognize current laws and therefore wages war and murders on a land that does not belong to you and that did not attack the Russian Federation. I don't want anyone to have to fight for their rightful property, territory and family just because the neighbor has come with an armed army to steal another neighbor's land and house and is willing to kill people for it, who never attacked and threatened him. As an Austrian, it's so awful to see how the Russian people have evolved. I never thought that other people could repeat Hitler's war, it's unbelievable. It seems pointless, to me it's like having a conversation with someone who is planning murder, theft or a terrorist attack and keeps telling me it's not a crime because there have been previous perpetrators. So it seems pointless to stop someone from doing it, it's your choice. From your point of view, Hitler's war was right to achieve the goal of empire. Not for me. The UN was founded in 1945 and the Russian envoy speaks of the UN session on the UN member states. He emphasizes why the Russian Federation does not comply with international law. The report states that the UN has so far documented the violent deaths of 441 civilians (341 men, 72 women, 20 boys and 8 girls) in the three regions alone in the first 6 weeks of the Russian invasion. You has to go back to 1991 and to the UN treaties between Ukraine and Russia: 1991, recognition of Ukraine's independence. 1994, the return of ICBMs to Russia, in return Ukraine received security guarantees from Russia. 1997, trilateral agreement (Ukraine, Russia, USA) on the independent decision to join NATO. Maidan 2013 was a citizens' protest against the government's refusal to sign the planned Association Agreement with the EU in November 2013. The protest was violently suppressed by the pro-Russian government. The internal affairs of Ukraine (a sovereign state!!) are not those of the Russian Federation!!! No country in the EU was involved in the protests.

@irinam.87 Point 2: The cause of the war and its effects are non-compliance with international law and international UN treaties: The unlawful invasion by Russian forces in 2014 and subsequent annexation of Crimea was and remains a violation of international law and its international treaties. This also led to the occupation of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts by Russian separatists in 2014. Since then, the Russian Federation has violated international law and its UN treaties, although these are also enshrined in Article 15-4 of the Russian Constitutional Law.

An arrest warrant was issued against Yanukovych at the time, and he was held responsible for the unrest.
