AMD, I hereby promise, before 714,000 witnesses, to NEVER buy a TOYOTA like this one!!!๐As a Salt Belt dweller I take 3 very serious lessons from this video : a) Rustproof your car! b) Rustproof your car!! c) Rustproof your car!!! Why would you spend so much money on such a high quality vehicle and then just watch it rot? ๐คจ RUST = NEGLECT

ย @on-site4094ย Later this year my car will be taken to Krown Rustproofing for its annual application for the 19th time. I gave it a thorough cleaning on Saturday and after 18 very salty Ontario winters, it remains rust free. In the Salt Belt, rustproofing is just basic preventative maintenance. ๐

Yes.

Most of us are in the same boat. As stated in this video, we can all benefit for the expertise being shared for free. ๐

In the Salt Belt we have the choice to rustproof our vehicles so the body and frame last as long as the mechanical components. Here in Ontario, I drive a car built in California that remains rust free after 18 very long and salty winters. Anyone who chooses not to rustproof their vehicle in the northern USA or Canada deserves as much sympathy as a person who chooses not to change the oil. RUST = NEGLECT

Very brand of neglected vehicles will rust in the Salt Belt. Up here rustproofing should be considered simple, preventative maintenance on par with oil and fluid changes. Toyotas are more infamous for rust because their mechanical components generally outlast the junk produced by the competition.

I am in Ontario, Canada. Rust is a choice in the Salt Belt. My car was made in sunny California and has remained rust free through 18 long and salty winters because it receives a proper annual rustproofing treatment. Earlier this week it got its 19th treatment so it is already ready for the winter ahead. ๐

Despite our much harsher climate, every state in the USA and every province in Canada has their own standard to insure/ignore road worthiness. In general, we are far behind the UK and Europe in setting minimum standards to help protect all road users.

ย @mervwhitney7229ย I am in Ontario, we are decades behind in this regard. ๐คจ

Neglect is the key word here! My 18 year old Salt Belt car is rust-free because I don't neglect the fact it needs to be rustproofed.

There are a number of reliable rustproofing products on the market. The owner of this Sequoia ignored all of them.

EXACTLY!!!!!

Agreed.

Exactly.

I will split the difference and call it extremely neglected.

This Sequoia is 22 years sold. Why don't Salt Belt dwellers rustproof their expensive purchases?
1
He just put 4 Michelin Defenders on his own LS 430.

We have very good rustproofing products in the Salt Belt as long as the owner is not too lazy to use them.

Here is another good question that arises after seeing the sorry state of this Sequoia. Why do drivers in the Salt Belt refuse to rustproof their vehicles especially when they spend as much money as this Sequoia cost?
1
Someone considering the possibility of becoming a tech needs to be prepared for the rampant mendacity of the auto repair business where honest mechanics may not always be appreciated.

This one was made in Indiana and seems to have spent its 22 year life in the Salt Belt. It looks like the owner never bothered to rustproof it and got the results that form of neglect always guarantees.

In the USA safety standards vary between the states. In Canada they vary between provinces. Overall, we are FAR behind the UK and Europe when it comes to keeping unsafe cars off the public roadways.

I am in Ontario, I would hope we are a lot more familiar with the concept of rustproofing.
