AMD, A 'failure' of the 2TR-FE engine at a mere 175,000 miles is what is known as the exception that proves the rule. As always, thanks for keeping it REAL and giving us the whole picture.😁

A few years ago while shopping for a second hand Tacoma, the 2.7 was my top choice. I test drove 3 manual, 4X4 Tacomas with the 2.7 engine and one RWD with an automatic. I would have happily bought one but could not agree a price with the sellers. After a lot of time and frustration, a 25,000 mile TRD Sport V6 came for up sale at a very fair price. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and I paid the price he wanted without hesitation. The extra V6 power is nice but not at all necessary for the intended use of the truck. We are going to miss the humble 2.7 when it rides off into the sunset just the way older drivers miss the Chrysler Slant 6 or the Ford 300 Inline 6. The big difference with Toyota's 2.7 is that it was bolted to parts which are just as reliable as the engine. That was not the case with the Ford or Chrysler engines where the rest of the car generally fell apart long before the motor.

I agree, there is nothing better than showing the ugly truth in high resolution. 😁

When AMD says it is the best Toyota engine, he knows what he is talking about. 😁I expect we will see the 2.7 in the Fortuner, Hilux and possibly the Prado for years to come. Sadly, in North America, 2023 may be the last year.

@stevet8121 We have two vehicles from the same Fremont factory in our Ontario, Canada family. Neither of them has ever been back home.
2
They put it in the 4Runner until 2011. In other markets it is installed in the Hilux, Fortuner and Prado.

Have you seen the videos about the man in North Carolina who put 880,000 miles on his 2008 Tacoma with the 2.7 engine? When the head gasket failed his garage would not guarantee a repair on such a high mileage engine so he got a used one installed. It was stated that the used engine had 100,000 miles. Now the truck has over 1.5 million miles.

The Venza, Sienna and Highlander had the 1AR-FE not the 2TR-FE seen in the Tacoma and other Toyota SUVS and pickups.

Have you seen the videos posted on Youtube about the Tacoma in North Carolina with over 1.5 million miles? You might find them enjoyable.

@christophermoses1225 I should have mentioned that it has the 2.7 engine.

You will find many discussions of that engine if you search through his video listings.

5 quid is nothing to be sneezed at. 🤩

The 2 door Prado with a manual transmission and 2.7 engine is my dream car. I hope you replaced yours with a brand new one . 🤩

And that was a generous comparison.

Toyota does not sell complete engines.

Your Tacoma was made in California, has it ever left the State?
1
Toyota does not sell new engines the way some other brands do.

He has lots of videos on the best Toyotas as well as the ones which disappoint.

@dualityofman1253 The 4Runner started as a 4 cylinder model and eventually a V6 became an option. There were also manual 4Runners in the first 2 generations.

I think this engine has a bright future in the Hilux, Fortuner and possibly, the Prado.

How much salt do they put on the roads in Australia?

Just think of all the heart attacks he is preventing with all this sensible, free advice and education.

Is that how they pronounce it on Vancouver Island? There is a Toyota salesman in the GTA with a Youtube channel called "Toyota World" and he call them TEE- otas.

@jml9550 One could also arrange an 'agreed value ' insurance policy for the truck.
1
@jml9550 At the agreed price.

Have you seen the videos about the 2008 Tacoma in North Carolina with over 1.5 million miles? 880,000 miles on the first 2.7 engine and 700,000+ on the second.
