  10. Start with the economics of storage. Do you think the companies that profit from the making of nuclear waste will be the ones to fund the safe storage? If not, who will? Yes...the public. This is NEVER mentioned when we discuss how cost effective it is. Then, let's look at a world map 100,000 years ago, 50,000 years ago and 12,000 ( during the ice age ) and tell me a storage location that will be suitable. Anyone? Now, the comparison between nuclear waste and other forms of waste from energy production. Basically, this argument boils down to, "they make pollution now, that they could deal with, but don't...with nuclear they will suddenly be concerned about by-product magically". Seriously...I expect better from Sabine. This is where her sarcasm should hit...instead she basically says "well they don't purify waste from coal, but nuclear waste storage will be faultless so it wins" WTF?

  23. What evidence does anyone have that any civilisation will last 100,000 years? What happens when these "storage facilities" go broke? Who pays the storage? HINT It isn't the companies that get the profit. The hubris in this discussion is worse than string theorists. The worst part, is when they compare waste we can deal with BUT DON'T as if we will deal with nuclear waste any differently. So many flaws in this. It's as if Nuclear Power Religion has got many. Science often has blinkers when it comes to society.

Nothing has changed in that time...not even the construction of long term storage facility has been done in those decades. Anyway, did you run out of points on topic and need to conflate?

I do NOT trust for profit entities to do the right thing. As a society we demand they cut corners and expenditure without compunction in order to produce profit. These 2 objectives are competing, not complimentary. These companies have shown us who they are...why won't you believe them?

  39. Infinite growth isn't a necessity, until you start to rely on it - then it becomes a feedback loop. Unfortunately, the choice was made long ago to set that loop in motion, so now we are stuck with being reliant on infinite growth - unless a conscious choice is made to change it ( regulation )

  45. 10:49 This has many applications. To a minecraft redstone expert they would see a weighted pressure plate, or a comparator than has multiple output strengths. 1. A machine that needs to measure a specific weight. Sense when the correct piece moves right and stop the fill. This in manufacturing and shipping is awesome. 2. A road sensor. If an overweight truck drove over something like this it would be instantly detectable. 3. Circuit - it can detect variable input strengths. Basically, a port that does mone than on/off. This is genuinely game changing in MANY things.

  46.  @jesan733  Firstly, that might be valid where you live. This is a global issue. Second...that sort of paperwork for allocation of finances never lasts 100,000 years. The geology part. Yes, diamonds also exists. Goodie. That isn't a location, it is just some words you hope distract from not having an answer.

  48.  @jesan733  Yes, the fact there is no long term storage other than Finland looking after themselves seems to have been missed by most watching. If they don't clean up what they can deal with now, why trust they will deal with anything nuclear waste efficiently? The fact Sabine talks about a chemical plant that also doesn't clean up properly isn't the reassurance that nuclear waste will be treated any better, that she hoped it would be. Rules sort of should be the same. Some geologists found gas in fissures so storage of drums will be fine. Not very reassuring.
