  1. Key event in China's past. Xi's father was ostracised from the party, and Xi was forced to live in abject poverty. He suffered at the hand of a brutal regime. It makes a man go 1 of 2 ways...he either gains or loses empathy. Clearly he lost all empathy. Now he inflicts that pain on others.
