Here is my Aussie take on it... Brexit made the UK as financially isolated as Australia but doesn't have the natural resources to dig up and make the money.

@petelawless811 Thanks for taking the time to post that it meant nothing. Your point is not as convincing as you hoped.

@JosephNZUK That tech requires resources. It always will. Lithium, uranium, aluminium, zinc, natural gas, gold... Australia supplies 60% of the world's iron ore. Education services that now service most of Asia - it isn't resources alone. Don't get me wrong, there are issues within the economy, and I could rant for hours. But there is no doubt that Australia is resource rich and tech requires resources. Australia has cattle stations larger than many European countries and can feed 80+ million people, with a population of around 30 million. These are the benefits of being just plain huge. This is not an endorsement of Australia's economy, but just the reality as it stands. It is how we made economic isolation withstand the GFC.

@LettsBclear What antics?

@richardmiller7887 The UK was fundamental in the building of the EU as a founding member. It isn't something that was imposed on the UK. The issue now is that the UK is now subject to the trade rules the UK helped implement. As an Aussie who has always had to jump through EU hoops, there is a poetic irony here

@1guitarlover How is that a defence?

@blaircorral8158 The media tries to say illegal immigrants are all "boat people," but most are people who overstay their visa - and yes, UK residents make up the largest group.

@classactsexpertiseandinspi4815 The resultant economic state is indeed comparable. No one was comparing the act of Brexit

@XxBloggs Yes. When compared to a trading block like the EU, it is indeed financially isolated. Our economy isn't as large as the UK , never mind the entire EU.
