  1. It creates an auction. It can lead to disappointment. It creates an uncontrollable discussion around the transfer. In a large open market, you don't negotiate in public. There are too many examples where a leak has been catastrophic, one way or the other - either through publicity, or other effects on negotiations. America has closed leagues with very limited options when moving. It's a different landscape.
