  1. May the sailors RIP The steel from these ships was forged prior to atomic bomb testing. Since then, it is very expensive to make steel without radioactive isotopes. This makes this steel valuable for highly sensitive science and medical equipment...so it gets sold to big business for a top price. The steel from pre-nuke days is becoming a rarer commodity as time goes on, so the price goes up and up - and any sources will be protected accordingly. Details matter.
