  1. The Portuguese knew that the potato came from Peru, and when they got the turkey, they assumed that it also came form Peru; thus the name. The Portuguese brought the turkey to Goa, in Portuguese India, where the Ottomans got it from the Portuguese, and took it to Turkey, and the Ottoman's traded the turkey to the English, and the English called it Turkey. Remember, the Andean potato came to the English North American colonies via England; the it was called the Irish potato. The potato was not part of Aztec culture; thus potato's not popular in Mexico.
