Synthetic oil = 5k oil changes (no more than 8k if you do mostly highway miles). Conventional oil = 3k oil changes (no more than 5k if you do mostly highway miles).

@doc.christopherthompson324 You mean Scotty Kilmer... I don't watch him anymore. He's not always right (except in his own mind).
4
And the oil changes will cost half as much if you change it yourself.
4
Depends on the type of driving such as city vs highway miles etc. 300,000 miles or more. Maybe even double that...

@DaBinChe I've had three cars that I put 200,000 plus miles on. I never changed brake fluid in my life. I'm 74 and bought my first car when I was 18.
2
@wimschoenmakers5463 Our 2009 RAV4 with the same 2.5 liter AR-FE engine gets 5k oil changes and the dip-stick reading doesn't change at all. But it only has 62,000 miles on it.
2
@82dupont I wouldn't replace the rotors if they're smooth and within specs for thickness.
2
Not all situations are the same... If it's kept outdoors where temperatures vary it will likely get more condensation in the crankcase than a vehicle kept in a garage where the temperature is more constant See this... Annual Oil Change Enough? Oil is good well after a year. https://youtu.be/T-yt5a1cWd4

I would change it at 5k as well. You could probably get away with 8k if you rarely do city driving or extended idling & never do short trips where the engine hardly warms up.
2
@mbell4436 I agree with you. However, if I was purchasing a used car I would pay more for one that had service records for 5k oil changes. How do I know the driving conditions that the previous owner subjected the vehicle to? I get been changing our oil and filter every 5k but starting with my most recent oil change from here out I'm changing the oil at 5k and the filter at 10k but I'm using a premium filter that's rated for 20k. This will make my winter time oil change less complicated while doing it outside in my driveway in freezing temperatures. (I'm in my mid 70s.)

@patrickzambori473 I thought he said that this was not a GDI engine.
2
@TheCarCareNut Why not 0W-30? It's the higher number that applies to engine operating temperature. The lower number would affect oil flow rate during cold starts.
2
I wouldn't go longer than 8,000 miles.

@TheCarCareNut Seems to me the extended idling had a lot to do with it. Thus it should have been on a service schedule for severe use.
1
@TheCarCareNut With no extended warranty option...? Two and a half years ago we bought our 2009 RAV4 from a dealer. We paid for an extended 4 year, 48,000 mile warranty. The car qualified because it only had 18,862 miles on it. In 5,000 more miles it will expire.

2AR FE is the engine in our 2009 RAV4. Glad I watched this. We have close to 62,000 miles on our car and it's been changed every 5,000 miles except once when it went over by a few hundred miles. We've owned it since it had 18,856 miles on it. Since we've owned it, it's been driven with mostly highway miles. I'm hoping it lasts for the rest of my life. I'm 74 now. How many miles were on the one in this video? Highway or city miles? The transmission on ours has misbehaved twice with a downshift that was anything but smooth. Other than that it runs great and we average 29 mpg overall. We only use ethanol-free fuel and regularly add 3 or 4 ounces of Lucas injector cleaner at fill-ups. I cleaned the MAF sensor at 60,000 miles when I changed the engine air filter.

Our 2009 requires 5k service intervals even if you lot to use full synthetic.

Isn't a Supra made by BMW?
1
Holy smokes! How many times is this question going to be repeated when the answer is part of the video. Congratulations AND on your wonderful display if patience.

I would do the same...

If service receipts have been kept then all should be fine.
1
I thought the Matrix has either a 1.8 liter of 2.4 liter engine. I didn't know it had the 2.5 liter 2AR-FE engine.
1
@user-tb7rn1il3q I never push mine either but it only has 62,000 miles on it and has had 5,000 miles oil changes, plus I usually do one drain and fill of transmission fluid every year. I use ethanol-free fuel (90 octane) and add a little Lucas injector cleaner at fill-ups.
1
Didn't the 2009 Camry have the 2.4 liter 2AZ engine?
1
I do all my own oil changes. I've been doing that for 56 years.
1
@TheCarCareNut Uh, what caused the excessive blow by?
1
@TheCarCareNut Doesn't Toyota also recommend top tier fuel?
1
@tomlees7477 So your dealer mandates 10K changes.
1
And in the USA your warranty is not voided if your service your own vehicle as long as it's documented with receipts.

Guess we didn't pay attention to the video...🤔 You can delete your question...
