  1. I subscribed (cause we own a Toyota). I was surprised that you didn't mention the difference between a Toyota OEM cabin air filter and most after market brands. Toyota has an up arrow that just tells you which side of the filter should go up. Most other brands have air flow arrows which should point down. It's amazing how many how to videos get this wrong. We change our oil and filter every 5,000 miles with 0W-20 (although I expect to go 100 or 200 miles over with the next change).

  2.  @mcr5645  They probably didn't change the filter because at the previous oil change it was torqued on with an impact wrench and they couldn't get it off. Thus if the filter wasn't drained there would be a half quart of old oil still in there.

  3.  @williamtsol636  Put some oil on a hotplate for an hour and heat it up to 400⁰F. Guess what? Without adding any contaminants to the oil, the heat alone will make it darker. Dark oil isn't necessarily dirty oil.

  4. K&N help increase performance but at the cost of decreased filtration. If you want a dirtier engine go ahead. Or search on youtube for "Project Farm air filters" and see his test results.

  5. @Harry Balls The marks on the dip-stick represent the minimum and maximum safe levels. There is no reason not to avoid underfilling or overfilling.

  13. Let's see 120,000 x.95 = 114,000 miles highway miles. That 114,000 highway miles would be equivalent to 11,400 city miles from a wear standpoint. 11,000+ 6,000 non highway miles = 17,000 miles equivalent if it was all non highway miles. Looking at it from that standpoint ... If I was driving 17,000 city miles with no highway miles I'd probably want to change it every 3,000 miles. So it seems to me that changing it every 2 months would be more than enough. In your case that would be every 20,000 miles. But changing it once a month in your case would be every 10,000 miles. At every 8,000 miles you're looking at every three weeks. Seems like overkill to me.

  15.  @sbromose1  I had an analysis done on mine at my last oil change. Id be happy to send you a copy. There was only 5,000 miles on the oil but 10,000 on the full synthetic filter. I did not have the TBN checked because I wasn't interested in seeing if the oil change interval could be increased or not. I was only interested in whether or not the synthetic filter was still doing it's job. It was.

  19.  @TheCarCareNut  Sometimes... I installed four new Denso sensors in our 2009 RAV4 and three of them worked without doing anything. The fourth one needed to be registered.

  20. Don't forget coolant drains and refills. Which models have bleeder valves and which don't. Which engines have a drainplug on the engine block and which don't?

  22. I only use the Fram Ultra Synthetic filter rated for 20,000 miles. Of course I don't leave it in there that long. I change our oil at 5k.

  23. I usually buy OEM but I would consider Denso (OEM manufacturer) WIX, or Purolator1.

  24. If your mileage is 90% or more highway miles, you can probably go to 8k to 10k without a problem. 1000 miles of city driving is equal to 10,000 miles of highway driving when it comes to wear. We drive mostly highway but I still change ours every 5k. I'm retired. I need something to do. LOL

  25. I would not trust those free lifetime offers. Are the really changing it? Are they using the recommended SYNTHETIC grade oil?

  28. If that's what my owner's manual recommended then I'd use 0W-30 and be done with it. That's what we used to use in our previous car (2002 Honda CR-V). Because I have a jug left over, we use it in our lawnmower now. 😅

  29. Ethanol-free gasoline will give you about 5% better fuel economy. That's been my experience with our 2009 RAV4. Tires can make a difference too. Narrow tires with a low rolling resistance makes a noticable difference compared to wider tires with an increased rolling resistance.

  30. If there's no visible leaks then there's no reason to use high mileage oil.
