Make it gray, silver, black or white please. * I don't want to buy a sedan or wagon or sportscar, no one wants those and I won't be able to get good resale value. * I want to sit up high because everything on the road is so tall today. I feel safer. * I want a big vehicle so I will be safer in an accident. That's about it. It's a self-feeding mental mechanism. Buy vehicles for the "other" buyers and resale. Trouble is, when the majority buyer buys for resale and what they think buyers will want, there isn't actually anyone in society (at least on a majority scale) that fits this hypothetical resale buyer. So everyone ends up buying what they think is more appealing at sale, rather than what they WANT to drive on a daily basis. It slides to lowest common denominator. Was this a chicken or egg issue? Did people start wanting nothing but big boxes with numb suspension and transmissions, or was that projected by marketing? Either way, the snowball has gotten big.
